I'm looking at possibly getting a netbook, one of those tiny laptops that are the size of a small book.  I think I've cut it down to a couple of models:

Acer Aspire One refurbished with 8.9", 120Gb HD, 1gb RAM, 2.5hr 3-cell batt (kinda small)  $299 Canadian

Asus Eee 900HL (similar specs to above) has 5hr battery.  Some say these are better for upgrading then the Acers

MIS WIND U100- similar specs but with larger 10" screen

Anybody here have one?  Your thoughs and any deals you know of?

Personally, I'd go with the Acer, but I'm a sucker for XP. The laptop seems solid enough though, provided you are only expecting to use it for basic web use, etc. I would recommend buying a 1 GB stick of RAM for it ASAP, though. The gig it has is sufficient, but you might as well take it to its full 1.5.

The Asus is good only if you are using it as a standalone and/or have the background to use the Linux OS to its full potential. Otherwise, connecting to a Windows machine is going to be a nightmare, as will using most peripherals.

The MIS might be a decent choice, except that there is almost NO information about it. If you've dealt with the seller before and know they can answer your questions, that could work, but I'd be wary.

Just my two cents - I'm a computer geek first and foremost, cars come second. (Don't kill me...)

Agrred with what Nathan says.  Also, the XP one would be easier to get an external CD drive for.  My mom wants one, but she didn't get it because she doesn't want to have to get an external CD drive just to load her programs on.

The Asus and MSI have windows XP too... I wouldn't be running Linux (dunno anything abut it, don't care) if I got one with Linux I'd install XP on it anyways.

Yeah I'd only be using one of these for web use and basic things.. I have my PC for photo editing etc.
