BTW, I feel sorry for your car. Those lateral arm bushings are so completely shot.
The ones on my '92 look just the same. I think the salt they put on the roads in the winter eat them along with any and all steel the car's made out of.

You would be surprised how easy they are to fix. The only disadvantage is that toe is aligned on our cars using slots in the rear subframe on the rear arms, so replacing those bushings will call for a rear end alignment unless you can match it back up perfectly, which is what I was able to do.
To get these out, you get a large adjustable wrench, and adjust it so its larger than the bushing, put the arm on top of the wrench, and hit the bushing with a hammer. It will pop out without a problem at all! It was uneblievably easy. I greased up and hammered in the new ones in reverse order.
Unfortunately, the price has gone up for these suckers, to $40 for a kit of 4 on rockauto. I'm not entirely sure, but I think you need 8. You'd have to check and see, as I don't remember if the center mounting points had bushings.

Not a bad price, but you'll never catch me replacing them on my car. Hell, I had to make my own trailing arm mounts because they ripped clean off the unibody. That car is very much so ready for the shredder. Such a shame what northern winters do to cars. Only 80k on it and the poor thing rotted all to hell.

That "if it ain't broke don't fix it" is probably the #1 reason why some of these cars are thought of as reliable. Take transmission fluid changes for one. Its not broken, but it will be if you don't take care of it.

So you don't want to take good care of your cars, causing them to malfunction and break prematurely, so you can scrap it and have to buy another one? How does that make sense? You have a great looking car there that is in great condition for its age. The reason why I mentioned those bushings is because if they are badly worn, they will cause your toe to change, will make your rear end feel sloppy, and will cause your rear tires to wear prematurely. Tires are more expensive than bushings.

no, when i spend a small amount of money that from the top, and a distance looks good but had multiple thousands of dollars worth of problems (engine has been ticking since it went in) and is rusted out from the bottom out, why save it? this aint no show room car and in all honesty i would much rather drive a new car than waste money on something thats on its last legs, so to speak. i had a tuff time justifying the $50 i spent for two tires mounted and balanced today... and my old ones needed air every other day. lol

I guess I never realized how bad the underside of your car was, and I never knew about the engine. That sucks, because it looks great on the outside.

looks can be deceiving. when i bought the car, it had 106,xxxkm on it, with a blown motor (it wouldnt even turn due to an oil pump explosion, parts of it were all over in side the crank case.) so i bought a motor (supposed to be a good one) with a leaking oil pump drive seal and i told the mechanic who did the swap for me (cuz i didnt have space) to put on a new timing belt and check it over to make sure it was all good... didnt happen. so i pick up the car leaking oil like MAD and pay for it like a retard. and since, ive had a problem about every month or so, speaking of which im gonna knock on wood cuz im due.

Yeah, my '92 looks great until you get underneath it. You'd never know the car only had 80k on it. It looks like there's about 600,000 miles on the thing. And your arms aren't that bad. My rear suspension is so bad I went to jack it up one day (using the jack support in the center of the monoleaf) and the fucking thing crumpled. and the car fell off the jack. That's why it's a summer-only car. One more winter and it would be scrap. Speaking of such, I really need to replace the fuel pump in that thing. It's been sitting for over a year because I've been so pissed off at it.
