apparently in these parts... got hit while parked
bad enough i need a new bumper cover.  at least they stuck around this time... unlike last time...
some older lady prolly late 40's early 50's in a big n shiney and new lexus RS390 hit me drivers side rear corner while i was inside the 7=11 getting a coffee on the way home from work.  she was all like OMG i am so sorry, i dont want to go through insurance cause there is no damage to my car.  and there wasnt, just a smudge in the dirt on her bumper.  she took my name and number i got hers, i am gonna get an estimate or 2 and shes gonna pay cash for it... shes got no way out i have her plate number as well, not sure if she say me write that down or not, it wasnt on the sheet we had our info on.

seriously though is my big white fucking car that hard to see... jesus 2 times this winter i've gotten hit by some douche in a parking lot.  this time i was the only car parked there and she was backing out of the gas pumps like 30-40' away.  i just dont get it.

oh well gives me a chance to let someone else pay for my bumper not aligning right since i bought the car 2 years ago... at least a new cover "should" fix that problem

pics...

im thinking an SS cover with the little grille between the tailpipes is an order.... shes paying after all

yeah the SS bumper i was thinking of is one with the HSAP GFX on it... brain fart on my part the other night SS bumper is identical to mine but it is color matched on the bottom.

update on everything... estimate for repair is $1300 lady says book it and she will pay with her MC i told her no offence but i really dont wanna trust her to show up and pay it... i would rather have cash in hand so i can book it when i have the time off to not have a car for 2 days.  see what she says... said her and her family were out of town for the weekend

I would just have her come in WITH you and pay it.. then it's all good.

I know the bodyshop at work charges around $350+ just to PAINT a bumper, I have no idea what the part costs so looks like it's probably right price.  If the bodyshop gets the bumper and paints it you shouldn't be left without your car for any length of time..

Didn't you have a little damage by the rear licence plate  too?  That will be good as new now too! smile

Since you keep your car well maintained (waxed and shiney) a newly painted bumper will not look out of place. thumbup

i think if it was a hit and run... and it was just me wanting to pay for it to get fixed they might have looked hard enough at it to see if they could repair it for less, but because it is someone else who doesn't want insurance involved they decided to go with a complete replacement.  If i DO get cash in hand i might look into that but i would figure the cost would be up there as well because of the extra labour charges.

i'm sure it would prolly be less to do it that way...the cost of a new bumper cover is probably pretty high...especially if its a GM part...

I say pocket the money.  There are a few different body shops that are selling new bumper covers painted to match your car's color code on eBay for right around $350.  Figure another hondo for shipping and you're still pocketing ~$850...

both quotes i got here were for OEM GM parts... even the same part number on both quotes, if she gonna pay for it i am not gonna put am after market cover on there.... not my fault she hit my car.
that said if she gives me the money to fix it, i would consider after market or used OEM and just have it refinished... put some money in my pocket because of it

Used OEM would be a good way to go.  Expensive bodyshops (like at the dealership) will charge around $400 to paint it, so figure alot less from the small guys.

Honestly.....it's in YOUR hands.  If you want CASH get cash.  IT's not up to her to decide what you do with it.  If you're willing to keep it out of insurance, then make her pay you the  $1300 cash.  Fuck the MC shit.  It's not up to her to decide how you fix it.  Tell her you want cash in hand or you'll go to insurance company.  That's what has happened to me when I've hit ppl.
