cool yeah after 90mph or so it's running out of steam ecspecially due to the hill i was climbing at that point. as you can tell 1st gear is useless. i totally fucked up 1st gear; had to get out of it and start again (it looks/sounds like i shifted to 2nd really early but i didn't). you can tell i was spinning tire all the way through 1st gear by looking at the speedo shooting up so fast & the RPM flaring right up to ~5500 RPM. i was trying to shift at 5000 RPM at each shift. i shifted to 2nd gear at a displayed ~33mph but then after i got into 2nd the tires stopped spinning so much and the speedo went back down to ~27mph displayed. i brought 2nd up to 53mph and then brought 3rd up to about 76mph. brought 4th slowly up to 110mph while climbing up the hill and then slowly reached 115mph in 5th just as i was reaching the top of the hill. looks like i only got up to 94mph on the 2nd vid - that was starting in 3rd gear and it pulls really well all the way through 3rd and a good ways into 4th. those are by far the best gears. it kinda loses steam after that thanks to the small turbo and crappy flowing GEN-II heads/intake. basically the car is the fastest from about 30mph to 90mph. before that it's tire spin, after that it's suffocating. anyway you can make those .mpeg's?

i edited out the begining and ending of the vid and brightened it up some: http://www.turbosedan.com/vids/Cutlass_0-90mph.moveven with the botched launch, mad tire spin through 1st gear, 4500ft elevation and with Dan in the car (not sure how much he weighs; i weigh about 170 fwiw) it still made it to 91mph in .2 miles according to my odometer (which IS verified accurate). that's very roughly 91mph in the 1/4. do you guys think the car could trap 98-100mph at sea level with a GOOD launch and track prep, no extra passenger or other extra weight (like spare tire or tools, 1/4 tank of premium pump gas etc)? i wonder what it would get for an ET? 14.2-ish? i'm guessing the car weighs 3400lbs. it dyno'd 227whp & 325wtq before i had it tuned, and an with an "eductated guess" i'm thinking it's around 255whp & 360wtq now (as it was in the vid). 5000 RPM in 4th = about 110mph fwiw. i wish i could go to the track but #1 - it's winter and the tracks are closed around here, and #2) the closest 1/4 mile dragsrip is at 4900ft. i'm just curious what the car is capable of as is..... any guesses?

Just curious..How would I do against this cutlass in my 06 SS?
Seems like it pulls pretty damn hard.

Jason MotorTrend tested the '06 Monte Carlo SS at 14.3 sec @ 98.1 mph. seems like it might be pretty close if it was 100% stock but i bet you'd have a slight edge with the lightly upgraded exhaust. i'd have to get a damn good launch to have a chance.

You should trap over 100mph at sea level Josh. I would guess around 102-103ish. *cough* mid to low 13's with traction *cough*

That's pretty damn quick. Looks about the same as when I took the Solstice GXP out for a blast (low 14 in the 1/4 mile). It shot up to redline very quick in 1st gear and just like your Cutty it felt like it was running out of steam around 100mph due to the small turbo and small 2.0L engine. Rated at 260hp at the crank, dunno what they'd put down to the wheels. Less torque I'm sure but it's also lighter.
I think it would be a fun race to see against a MC SS, but I'd put my money on the Cutty.

Would be interesting, but I would imagine I would have alot more Top End then him being a 5.3L. I am getting a CAI soon as well as getting my exhaust done 3 inches from the header back. That damn y-piece at the end goes to like 2.25 inch, so im taking her back to get 3 inches all the way back.
I would put my money on the Monte..... LOL

I would put my money on the Monte..... LOL
Jason
i wouldn't put money on either car lol. it would be a fun race for sure. i think if we raced from a dig and i got a good launch, i'd slightly walk you and then after 70mph or so you'd be slightly walking me and end up pretty even around 100mph but that's all speculation.

Jason Well yeah if you are gonna mod it then that's a different story. And I'm sure it probably does have alot more top end than a 3.1 and would kick ass at the higher speeds. My vote on the Cutty was your car=stock and from a dig to like 100mph or something (1/4mile anyways).
