1  Off-Topic / The Lounge / What's on your mind? (post a quicky like on facebook) on: April 22, 2009, 04:40:04 AM
Dave- says he can't wait for the weekend cause it's freakin cold for the end of April!
2  1997-Present W-body section / General 2nd and 3rd GEN W-body Discussion / sunroof drain tube? on: April 01, 2009, 09:10:31 PM
I should have paid more attention when the leak guy fixed a 2003 Monte Carlo at work, the sunroof's drain tube was leaking into the floor which caused like a galon of water on the passenger side.  He found that the drain tube had disconnected from the firewall (or wherever it's suppose to EXIT so the water was coming right in.

I found the same problem on a 2005 GP at work today (it's a 3rd gen, but probably exactly the same).  I couldn't figure out where the drain tube is suppose to exit (it was just dangling in the bottem of the A-pillar and draining onto the floorpan).  For now I just route it out the side beside where the wires and stuff go into the door.  Where is this drain tube suppose to connect to??  I'd like to know if I ever have this problem with my Impala as well.
3  Off-Topic / The Lounge / attention photogs/gear heads...new Rebel DSLR with HD video! on: March 27, 2009, 05:18:51 PM
For those who are into photography and are thinking of upgrading your old Rebel XT, or those who are interesting in 1080p HD video capabilities with awsome lenses... under $1000!

http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/T1I/T1IA.HTM

I personally don't care about video enough to spend extra money for it, but the fact that it (presumably) has image quality as good as the 50D for less money has me re-thinking what my next camera will be.
4  Tips, Tricks and How-Tos / Interior / Tornador- the ultimate detailing tool on: March 22, 2009, 08:04:44 PM
If you've got compressed air and like to keep your car clean, this tool makes the job easy and fun!    Virtually eliminates the need for small brushes, spray bottles, and reduces the amount of rags you might use.

I have one at work and use it all the time, it's really a huge time saver.

It may sound like I'm trying to sell this product or something, but it's really just something amazing that most people have never seen before.  It costs around $150-200 but may be worth it depending how much you use it.

Watch this video that shows you how to use it.  The demonstration is pretty much exactly how I use it, even though this is the first time I've watched the video.

5  1997-Present W-body section / General 2nd and 3rd GEN W-body Discussion / Impala (possibly same with Monte) question on: March 21, 2009, 08:01:47 AM
One of the lights on my HVAC controls burnt out.  I have the 00-03 style which has 0-5 settings for the fan control, while newer ones (04-05 I think) have little dots (more then 5 settings).   So I'm wondering:

1.  What's involved with changing that lightbulb?  Is it a GM only part?

2.  Can I upgrade to the 04-05 HVAC controls (plug and play?)
6  Off-Topic / The Lounge / netbooks/sub compact notebooks... does anyone here have one? on: March 14, 2009, 07:14:30 AM
I'm looking at possibly getting a netbook, one of those tiny laptops that are the size of a small book.  I think I've cut it down to a couple of models:

Acer Aspire One refurbished with 8.9", 120Gb HD, 1gb RAM, 2.5hr 3-cell batt (kinda small)  $299 Canadian

Asus Eee 900HL (similar specs to above) has 5hr battery.  Some say these are better for upgrading then the Acers

MIS WIND U100- similar specs but with larger 10" screen

Anybody here have one?  Your thoughs and any deals you know of?
7  Tips, Tricks and How-Tos / Interior / Do you like the shine? (Talking about dressing/armorall) on: January 30, 2009, 07:51:40 PM
I'm just curious to know who here likes (or dislikes) the use of interior dressings such as Armorall, Meguires, etc.

As a detailer (specifically a used car detailer now) I see all sorts of cars.  I clean up cars that come from the auction, and most of them have already been detailed and greasy dressing of some sort applied.

I don't use any dressing on my own vehicles - I use Aerospace 303 protectant on my Impala and wife's Focus.  It leaves a low gloss and HELPS repel dust.  I don't really consider this stuff a "dressing".

On the vehicles at work I use a product called "Fadeaway" from my supplier BOCAR, which is a thin white waterbased dressing that smells like coconut.  I'm sure this is a generic type of dressing because Carbrite (who I no longer do business with) had a very similar product.  I like to use it on GM, Ford, and other cheap plastic interiors lol to brighten them up a bit.   I also use this product on engine bays because it makes the plastic and rubber look like new (not just greasy) I also started using it on tires (before winter.. now I use nothing).
8  Moderators / Suggestion box / "Appearance" forum deleted.. threads moved on: January 30, 2009, 07:36:16 PM
With the new "Tips, Tricks and How-Tos" area there is now the "Interior" and "Exterior" forums, which will include any information that was previously in the appearance forum.  Old threads have been moved from the appearance forum so they might be old!  I think having a seperate interior and exterior forum is a great idea (props to the Admin  cool ) because there is alot to detailing.

10  Off-Topic / The Lounge / What do you think about the current forum layout? on: September 27, 2008, 09:28:22 AM
I realize that the site hasn't been updated in quite some time.  Would like to get feedback from the members on what we could do to make this place better.  There isn't alot of traffic and there are alot of different sections on the forum- I was thinking we could group some of them together- what do you think?

I'm not an active member on any other w-body related forums anymore, how is the traffic at those places?  If anyone has any cool ideas to jazz up this place, whatever they may be, let's hear them!
11  Off-Topic / The Lounge / picture thread II on: August 18, 2008, 04:34:52 AM
last picture thread was like 10pgs long so i'm starting a new one..

Here's my first attempt at HDR.  I used Photomatix (thanks for the tip Sofakingwetoddid)

12  Off-Topic / Other Vehicles / G8s.. more in the States? on: July 17, 2008, 05:17:08 PM
So far I have seen 2 G8s.  Couple of weeks ago a black GT and it had a US plate on it (I forget what state.. lol).  The other day I'm pretty sure I saw a red G8 fly by in the opposite direction.  I work near the "golden auto mile" in the city where all the dealerships are, so if a new car is out I'm likely to see it.

Anyways I talked to a GM salesman a couple weeks ago and he said the G8s are out in the US, will be available in Canada in several weeks but as a 2009 models.  Also I dont' know if there is any truth to this, but the current GT models are only V6s??

So have the G8s officially replaced the GPs in dealerships everywhere, or are they still really new?
13  General / Audio / !!!!! $30 !!!!!!!!! on: May 24, 2008, 01:39:34 PM
Got a great deal at a yard sale today.  I was looking through the box and
the lady said I could have it all for $30.  I was like HELLZ YA!

-JBL GTO606c 6.5" component set (70w RMS, 220 peak)
-JBL GTO926 6x9 (100w RMS/300peak)
-Polk 4" 2-way (sticker on the back is missing, dunno model.. anyone know??)
-Denon DCA-3250 2ch amp (50w x2 RMS?)

I moved the cones and they seem to slide smoothly, so I think they should be in good working order.  If everything works good (or even just the components) this will be the best yard sale score, ever!

This should be a nice setup for my Impala.  I will use that amp for the front components.  I just have to see if I can hook it up to my factory HU.  I might get a bass canon of some sort later on for a bit more bass.

It is in perfect working order and 8/10 cosmetically (2 of the corners have some wear).
