Will the tranny from my 93 Grand Prix with 3.1 work in a 90 Regal with the 3.8?  The GP runs great with 230,000 miles.  I may have a chance to get a 90 Regal for hardly nothing with tranny problems and far less miles.  When the GP dies I may want to use the tranny out of it if I can.

Thanks,
Brandon

a 93 3.1 GP would have a 4T60E, whereas a 90 regal 3.8 would have a 4T60.

I take it that 4t60 is non-electronic.  Would the 3.8 from the 90 Regal work in my 93 3.1 GP?  The Regal's in good shape other that tranny slippage.  Has far less miles than the GP.  Would be a good parts car if engine would fit.

the 3.8 is a MAF system, compared to the 3.1's speed-density. you would have to swap all relevant underhood wiring, and even then, the 3.8 PCM wouldn't know what to do with the -E tranny. you would never get out of third gear.

its funny cuz of how many people would argue for the LQ1 and then all the people that would get pissed off and say keep the 3800... or go with an L67... personally i would keep the 3800 and find out whats wrong with the tranny before i replaced it, and it would depend on whats wrong if i replaced it
