seeing that your name is 3.1 Cutlass, I am going to assume that you have a 3.1 MPFI.

I have seen a 1992 and newer with a TV cable, so if you have 1992 and older then you will have the cable.

Easiest way to find it is look at your THROTTLE BODY.  If you have CRUISE CONTROL, then you will have 3 cables attached to the linkage.

The 2 that are side by side, those are the gas, and cruise.  The one on TOP is the TV.

If memory serves me correct, you first have to RESET the TV cable.  You do this by finding where the cable is attached to the bracket.  There is a square button that is hard to press, pushing it, and sliding the cable away from the throttle body.

After you release the button, and make sure it is holding, you then pull the end of the cable attached to the throttle body, and listen for it to CLICK.

I cant remember if more clicks is sooner, or later, but 3 clicks is what I had my 2.8 set as, and that was PERFECT.

I want to say that the more clicks, means the sooner it will shift.

Here's a guide on adjusting the tv cable with an illustration that is very similar to the adjuster on your cable.

http://www.technicalevolution.com/tv.htm

Use a long screwdriver to depress the adjustment button. If you want, I could get a picture of an actual cable from a W-body car for you as I have one sitting in my closet...

EDIT: I meant to post this picture along with that above.

when I go out to my mothers later today, I will take pics of it on my STE.  Hell.  If I get REALLY AMBITIOUS, I might even try to make a DIGICAM video of how to adjust the W-body cable.

yes.  The more you pull it, the sooner the shift.

I am telling you NOW.  If you want to save a LOT of trouble later on, then only pull it one click at a time, and test it (assuming you don't reset it first).

Another thing to do is to get a new TRANSMISSION SHIFT MODULATOR (I think it is like $20 from any parts store).  The new ones are ADJUSTABLE
so you can add more or less vacuum and make the shift firmer.  Just so you know, the newer one is SMALLER than the stock one, but if you have
the big GRAY ONE (you know the metal vacuum line behind the oil cap going into the plenum?  Follow that to your modulator (under the airbox
on the front of the tranny).

If you have not already put in the adjustable one, then I HIGHLY recommend it (i have put it in all of my cars.  It REALLY helped the shifting on my 1990 STE.

you don't have to push the button to pull it.  If you pull it, it will click.  You push the button to PUSH IT.

The whole cable is what moves.

It just so happens that I have to remove my plunum on my STE to replace the fuel injectors, so I will pull it out, and get you some pics, and a fic to show you how it works, and adjusts.

Not sure if I am going to do it today, but if not, I am DEFINANTLY going to do it tomorrow.

Here are pics, and links to 2 videos:

This video is showing how to reset it.  I just pressed that button on the first pic, and slid it.

In this video, you can hear it clicking as I pull the cable.  It is kinda hard to pull.

Another thing,  The TV CABLE in my 1988 was BROKEN, so I could NOT pull it.  It worked fine, but it was not adjustable.  Just one more thing to keep in mind.

well.  3 clicks from a RESET is what STOCK is suppose to be.

Just in case, you want to reset it, and try 3 in case someone was messing with it, and it might be a only 2 right now.

To reset it, you have to press that button, and push it back.

3 clicks from that all the way back position is the stock setting.
