Hi Everyone! Here's my story & I hope you can help...please? This car has 170K on it and has been maintained regularly. It has run well up until now! It has developed a miss at idle & also when it shifts into overdrive at freeway speeds. It has been using a lot more fuel and the power is way down as well. As a preface, I am a fairly competent mechanic & I am armed with the manual for this vehicle. I have checked all of the obvious areas where a miss might occur, plugs & wires, fuel filter & pressure, vacuum leaks & vacuum reading, ignition module & coil packs, compression & EGR system too. In all of these checks & tests the results been within specs! The next thing to check I figure is the actual fuel injectors, but I have not wanted to go that far unless I have to. Does anybody know of an easier way to check the injectors? Or maybe have any other thoughts on what this thing is up too? Thanks in advance... Gasman

You can OHM the injectors. With them in the vehicle. You have the 3100?
They should come out to over 12+ ohms. Anything less than that and I'd say they are bad. All you need is to stick a volt meter into the male ends of the injectors.

Yes it has the 3100, do you have to take off the intake to get to them?

Yeah, the top intake probably has to come off. At that time you might want to do those gaskets while your there.

OK so here we are back with an update! I have performed the test for injectors in the manual, which is put a screwdriver tip on the injector/ listen through the handle for the injector "click" while the engine is running. I heard nothing, no clicks etc. At last check I am not deaf so WTF? I proceed to remove the top of the intake to actually get to the injectors, get them out & test with a meter...they all read right about 12.3 ohms and appear to be clean "tip wise". So whats next...is there any other way to test them? Everything I have tested/ checked on this engine is showing up as good...where is this miss at? Arrrrrrgggghh
Hey thanks guys

12.3 is good for the injectors. You said you checked fuel pressure. If you don't me asking, what was it?
I'm not too sure what else it could be. Maybe an IAC or TPS sensor that is on the way out. Usually those can be cleaned and put back in. Not sure if they would cause a SES unless they were completely bad.

Fuel pressure was a steady 40 psi, vacuum rock steady at 15 inches. Also, no SES has ever been triggered...that has me scratching my head too?

Yup 40psi is perfect and vac. pressure is good too. That is really confusing.

A clogged cat can cause all sorts of problems?
If it gets red hot after the car has been driving a while it's probably bad.

No chance of getting rid of the cat...they just brought back emissions here! I have checked the exhaust flow at the tailpipe & it seems normal...I know that's not very scientific but it doesn't seem restricted in any way? As far as the torque converter goes, the tranny was rebuilt about 25K ago and the car has the miss when it's out of gear too...sooooo fark!!
