which will hopefully be tomorrow.
When my vert was in the shop getting the rear freezeplug done, they messed something up. Instead of admitting it, the covered it up, but I don't trust the car now. When I gave it to them, it had a minor stutter at idle from a leaking EGR gasket. When I got it back, it was only running on 3 cylinders.
I had them diagnose it, and now I got the parts to fix it.
According to them, it needs a FULL tuneup, the front valve cover gaskets are leaking, and the lower intake gaskets are leaking.
I bought new plugs, and wires, valve cover gaskets, and an intake set. I think Jay said the intake had been done, but it is cheap enough, so I will do it again anyways. I also got new EGR gaskets.
I should be doing this either tomorrow, or monday.

Have fun on that one, I hated doing the LIM gasket on mine but it's probably more of a pita on the DOHC.

actually, the LIM gaskets are not that bad to do on the DOHC. They are a LOT easier to do seeing that you don't have to really expose anything engine internals other than the intake ports.
You have to remove the upper intake to do just about anything on this engine anyways, and it is not that much more to get the lower off. Just the fuel rail, remove the power steering pump, and then like 8 bolts, and the lower intae is off. It is actually a LOT easier to do the lower intake on the twin cam (for once) than on the pushrod engine.

weird, I'd give it a shot. You would figure that that it would actually be harder to do the LIM on the DOHC but I havent actually tore into one 'yet'

how so? It didn't leave me stranded. I could drive it now, but I am chosing not too. The problems it has now is because a shop "tinkered" with it.

Which is why I never go to a shop...Half the time, they come back worse than when they went in.

well, I was sick with the flu, and I took it in to have the freeze plug done. I was prepared to do these things after I got it back out anyways.
I don't mind.

It's just aggravating to me...Like with my van...Told my wife "just get the oil changed" now it looks like I get to change the trans because they told her it needed flushed...Anyone one that knows how to put their pants on knows you don't FLUSH a trans with 155,000 miles on it.

some of these places will tell you that it needs it so that when it blows up, they can charge the big bucks for a new transmission. There are shops around here that do that.
Just like the autoparts stores that SWEAR that Bosch +4's are the best plugs ever created.

I did the work, but I didn't do the intake gaskets. It was obvious that they were still good. They still looked new, and I know Jay said that they had been done.
Jay, I found the cause of the EGR vacuum leak. You know that triangle shaped EGR gasket? Or rather you know that MISSING triangle shaped EGR gasket?
heeheehee
New plugs, new wires, new EGR gaskets, and new valve cover gaskets. Now, it runs good, does not have a vacuum leak, and it likes WOT.
The only thing now is that it shifts hard into gear. I think I will just slap an adjustable shift modulator on it, and it should be fine.
I also broke that vacuum port, so I stuck that spare one on there (The one for the MAP engines). I will go to a yard and grab another one in a few days.

I flushed my 219k miles trans its not at 224k and it still shifts just as smooth as ever. Shift quality improved, when i bought the car it banged into gears bad, i just did a pan service, it cleared up the banging, then the flush about 10k later made it smooth as butter, im amazed! If your Trans already is having problems a flush probably is usless and the trans would have died anyway. A flush (which is really just exchanging all the fluid out for new fluid, not FORCING fluid through the trans) is not going to harm your trans.....unless it already has a problem, like the slippery fluid on the toasted bands = accelerated death, but it would have died in short order no matter what if the bands were toast.

Absolutely nothing wrong with the transmission until my wife was robbed of $150 by taking it to Jiffy Lube. I would barely let them touch a lawnmower, much less any of my cars. Prospeeder, you're still a pup. I've been under the hoods of cars since I was 8. I'm 31 now and have probably forgotten more than many on this board know. Damn, I am old. lol But I'm not going to be like no-EGR and not only give the WRONG information and allow people to get fined, ect. But I will, 1: admit when I am wrong and 2: when I am right, I will allow someone to find out how wrong they are until they near the point of no return, then I will guide them. I still don't miss that car, but it makes me feel good that you seem to be having the time of your life with it Taylor.
