unfortunatly the entire fleet of expiditions were like that. Trans eating oil consuming junk. And yes it is underpowered in a full size body on frame 4x4 SUV fully loaded with equipment, hardly comparable to a 4.6 mustang or car. As complelty strange as it is the Explorers were much better with the 4.0, they replaced nearly the entire expidition fleet with explorers, talk about downsizing, bleh. My dads now got a 07 Explorer 3.0 and its a turd but its yet to have major issues.

Oh and a 4.6 making 400? Not likely. There has NEVER been a ford v8 mod motor, much less a non 32v making 400hp n/a or over 400 without a blower. The 5.4 in the 2000 cobra r was 385, the next one was a 32v 4.6 with a blower made 385. The non R 32 v was (over)rated at 320. We shall see what the new 5.0 does, they say 425 but it will probably be a " rev to the moon to make the power" motor, very unlike the original 5.0 torquer Post Merge: April 09, 2010, 08:47:06 PM

yeah , and not a cammer, and 185hp carbed 305, vs a 281inch efi 215hp(min) cammer

who said it was stock? she had some shit done to it (i dont know and neither did she exactly because it was done before she bought it) and yeah, it was close to 400 hp. learn how to read. its no wonder Chris changes your posts to bullshit, thats what it starts out as, he just saves the rest of us some reading time.

I did read. A 4.6gt won't make 400 without a. Ludacris $ b. Blower c. Nos d. Any 2 of the above, and have a very short life
D is the correct answer
now a 32v modded is very dooable 400 with a s/c and not be a hand grenade waiting to happen

the right people can do the right things to these motors.
a NON modded 32V is pushing near 400hp, so a chip and a k&n air filter should make the like 14hp to achieve the 400 mark.
go hit up your local search engine for a fpv falcon or the svtr cobra.

Even if that motor did make 400hp, you still have herpes. Case in point, this thread is for 3800's.

You said it was a gt. A gt is a 2v motor 225hp. Getting 175 more hp requires a LOT of shit done , not "some shit"
Post Merge: April 09, 2010, 09:37:20 PM And " doing things" negates the term stock. 32v were (over)rated 320hp from the factory. Case closed

From wikipedia
For 1996, Ford finally did away with the aging 5.0 liter V8, replacing it with a new aluminum 4.6 liter, DOHC, "modular" unit that was smoother and had slightly better fuel economy. This engine produced 305 hp (227 kW) and 300 lbf·ft (410 N·m)
