I fucking hate my '92. After putting all new rotors/pads/calipers/lines on it, rear spindles/struts/custom coilover suspension and front struts/wheel bearings - the fucking thing DIED!
I was driving home last Friday and I passed some Douche doing 35 in a 50. My car started sputtering and not running like it was about to run outta gas. If I was real easy on the throttle it would kinda go, but if I gave it much gas it would sputter and backfire and be very unhappy. The car ended up dying in my driveway, and I had to push it out of the way with the Euro.
I figured with 90k on the original fuel filter, it was time for a new one. Well, (thanks to rust) two hours and a few new sections of fuel line later I had a new filter in there. Go to start the car and fucking nothing. It'll start right up if I spray starting fluid in the intake, and I can keep it running on the starting fluid or if I pour gas into the intake. The fuel pump is definitely working because it's spraying fuel fucking everywhere underneath the car since I cracked a part of the plastic line (yay pinhole leak). I'm thinking maybe the fuel pressure regulator because I'm not sure what else.
No auto parts store I've been to has a fuel pressure gauge for an EFI car either, so I can't check that.
Where should I look next? IMO it's in the fuel delivery system, only things I could think of going so bad that it starved the car of fuel and then died are pump, filter & regulator?
Since the POS died the week I'm moving into a new place, I just went out and bought a box truck. I think I'm going to get rid of this fucking car.

I'd also guess it's the FPR if the thing runs when you spray starting fluid down the TB (and the fuel pump and filter are good.) Sounds like a good place to start.

Already replace the relay so I don't think ti could be that. I'll try the injectors, I have to replace the plenum gaskets anyway (if I can find the new ones I bought).
This car always has this problem when it's below 30*, but it hasn't been THAT cold lately (well during the day when I'm trying to start it)

Fuel pump, 90k is right around where most cars start have trouble. Bang on the bottom of the tank and see if maybe it will start, has worked before. Easy to replace and not too exspenisve.

meh I dunno about that. You could have not enough pressure too, clogged filter or weak ass pump. You need to check if the injectors are pulsing. Noid light is the best way. U can check with the volt meter and be sure 12 volts are at the injectors. The computer cycles the ground. If the crank sensor was bad it woudnt fire the injectors, but then you wouldnt have spark either. You could Ohm check the injectors to be sure there all above 12 ohms, but i have MAJOR doubts that would cause a no start, usually they would have caused a major driveablitly problem in the process of them going bad. Plus what are the chances all 6 injectors just failed, lol not likley. FPR....maybe, I have my doubts it would make a no start condition, but you never know.

The Grand Voyager at work actually did that. It would run fine at a low rpm, hit about 2500 RPM and it would start sputtering and backfiring and also flash the Check Engine light. After a lot of bullshit testing stuff, we replaced the spark plugs/wires, and the camshaft sensor. Ran good as new then.
But, at least it never had trouble starting, can't explain that one.

well it was dying. and hitting the gas made it die faster... then it didnt start to find out what was wrong with it. the best explanation or guess anyone gave me was that the fuel injector was just dumping fuel as soon as it was hooked up. but when i unplugged the electrical connector to it, the car started (rough) and kinda ran, but enough to drive it home. lol

Nothing yet, the car is at my parent's house which is about an hour away from mine. I haven't had the chance nor want to go over there and screw with this thing outside in the cold I need to head over there tonight to pick up some shit, but not until late.

Picked up the car a few days ago, trailered it to my house. I'm going to start dicking with it in the near future. Since I have the Toyota I'm at the point where I don't need that car to tow a trailer anymore (which was the only thing that justified me keeping it), so I might end up stripping it and hauling the carcass to the junkyard for scrap.
