Even iron dukes in Astro Vans! lol The 4 cylinder sonoma/S10s got just as shitty mileage as the 6, were underpowered, and noisy. But they didnt have head problems like the FWD cars, i guess they couldnt stay as cool in a FWD application and had more gasket problems

Tell that to the several people I knew that owned and were happy to trade them off cuz of the problems they had. And they took good care of their trucks too.
Post Merge: February 28, 2010, 04:19:27 PM IMO the 4.3 & 2.8 should have been the ONLY engines put in there. Quite frankly the 4.3 should have been the only option. Very efficient and powerful. I had a 96 1500 2wd w/ the 4.3 and had 260k+ mi. on it and never really had a problem.

At work we had a '98 S10 with the 2.2/2200... 216,000 miles and was virtually maintenance free... The A/C even still worked! It didn't use any fluid...

The 2.8 should have NEVER been an option. the 4.3 should have been the base model engine, and a 5.7 the upgrade.

Mine caught on fire in my blazer and finally locked up, had zero power and torque the whole time. 4.3>>>>>>>>>>>>2.8

Mine ate the bearings with only 74k on the clock, AND it never had any power or torque to do a god damn thing. It was either 4LO or don't go.
