damn :shock: i have an LG5 shortblock in my garage with a melted piston...but the rod itself still looks fine other than melted aluminum from the piston top sticking on it

in all seriousness i kind of doubt the rod itself was to blame. i mean, they are forged! i think something else caused the rod to fail, IOW the cause wasn't a weak rod.

The other side of the rod in that pic actually looks like it broke...
I will try to get a good pic using Macro on my camera to show it, but it does look like a weak spot in the metal caused it to fail.
