Thats a bad EGR, right? my book tells me so.
what i am wondering, is if anything else can trip this code (other than bad wiring) my plan is to look at the old motor and just swap out the EGRs.

so i took 3 mins and swapped the egrs. check engine light is now off while the car is running. but this one looks soooo much crustier than the other one. (on the outside) oh well. i guess i have to put a sock on it or something.

anyone else have a really HOT engine too? mind you im used to my 3800 that had all sorts of room everywhere for airflow.

Are your fan(s) working? I can't remember if the vents on the hood of a Z34 are dummy vents are not, but you should pull some air through those and the front air dam. Otherwise you virtually have no grill to speak of. I too loved the big grill on the Regals I've had, never once did my '96 Regal coupe 3800 heat up, in fact it never moved from the warmed up operating temp unless I was in super slow traffic. Check your fan(s).

Both of my cars have the 3100, but neither run all that hot, the Cutlass runs at maybe 130 for temp fully warmed up and my Grand Am maybe 140 fully warmed up. I suffer from the same problem. The Grand Am has tiny front grills and the Cutlass only has the front air dam.

Lucky you had a spare EGR valve. I owned a '94 Grand Am GT 3100 for 4 years loved that car, but also poured a ton of money in it. My check engine light would come on in that car and the mechanic I took it to could never figure out why, even after a full tune up, fuel system cleaning, and a host of other sensors, Idle sensor, O2 sensor, cam shaft sensor. I tried a used EGR valve still the light was on. I took a new $250 EGR valve to fix the problem.
