ok ok ok....i know matt already made a post about this.....but...i've heard w/ a 94 3100 motor, for some reason, you can't swap top ends...is this true and who has heard anything about it....
....by top ends, i'm talking lower and upper intakes....i've heard that something in the lowers gets in the way....like pushrods or something on the 94's.....
...i think the upper manifold would be easy yes.....and the bolt holes do line up right?

i can't think of any differences in the '94 3100 specifically besides them using plastic valve covers IIRC. anyone else?

I think it has something to do with the rocker arms. Talk to John GP1138 i'm sure he knows.

I think it has something to do with the rocker arms. Talk to John GP1138 i'm sure he knows. The rocker arms could be a problem. 94 3100's had stamped rockers, 3400's had roller fulcrum rockers. The roller fulcrum rockers have a notch in the head where the rocker pedestal mounts, the stamped rocker heads don't. However, if you went to a full 3400 topend on a 94 3100 block, you might need custom length pushrods, although I would think the 3400 pushrods would work. Also, the EGR's are different between the two.

oh, i thought you meant the '94 year 3100 in particular. yeah they have stamped rockers. roller fulcrum rockers started in '96.
if you did a 3400 topend swap (or '00+ 3100 topend - same thing) you'd have to use custom length pushrods so your non-roller cam and the roller fulcrum rockers would work together.
personally i'd just find a complete good running 3400 for $400 and throw it in.

No, none of this is correct. The pushrods are the same length. All 3100 motors use 1.6:1 rockers and the same cam and lifters. The problem is with the non roller rockers hitting the lower intake. You can test fit it with the lower intake on and turn the engine over by hand. You should see where its hitting (2-4 will hit, brad on 60V6 knows as he did this swap).
However, I think you should use 3500 heads and manifolds instead. It makes most ported 3400 setups look like chumps. Think of it like ported your small port 3100 stuff compared to using 3400 parts. 3500 owns 3400.

Are the modifications to bolt the 3500 topend to a 3400 the same modifications required bolt the 3500 topend to a Early Gen III 3100?

Where we gonna find the engine? It's only been popular in the minivans since the 2007 model, other than that only a few w-bodys and the occational G6 GTP...
