With all the talk of turbosedan's Regal it's got me thinking of what I could do to give my Impala just a little bit more power. I don't have the time/money/know-how (or the need) to get over 300hp (for now anyways.. lol).
So I'm wondering what would be the best way to start. I'm thinking (in this order):
1. Better flowing exhaust (especially with the single exhaust on the Impy) probably stick with single pipe just better flowing, I don't give a shit about shiney muffler tips..
2. CAI
3. ?
I'm thinking with a few bolt ons it might give me some better top-end power above 50-60mph, below that it's got enough to get me around just fine.

exhaust will always help, as will a true CAI. But really depends on how much you wanna spend and what your future plans are. you dont wanna mod your engine with things now that will 'cancel' out your future mods. ya know?
You can go with a bigger TB, rocker arms - higher ratio, and tune with those and your exhaust and CAI should help that engine out a little bit

a 2.5" downpipe with a u-bend delete will help a lot. And a CAI. Those are my two "future" mods as of now!

I think he was talking about the ZZP Z7 kit, there is also the Cartuning Turbo kit.. but it will be a long time before I have money to even think about doing stuff like that.

L32 top end swap, headers, exhaust and cam will get you close to 300 pretty quickly i would do things that you can still use if you decide to turbo it or whatever you think you might actually do. fwi and exhaust should help the top end like you want.

Don't get me wrong, the GS, GTPs, and SSEIs that I've driven were fun (completely stock), but I was happy with the performance from a plain old NA 3800. I also didn't want to pay for premium, and with my stop-and-go driving I only get around 400km/tank. I've still yet to see a 3800 turbo in person, I just never got into the "Gen II" scene yet . Closest thing was the Solstice GXP, after 3000RPM the turbo kicks in and you gotta be ready to shift quick cause redline comes up fast!! lol

Getting rid of the U-Bend alone will gain you close to 20hp at the crank. Dual exhausts are just for show on FWD GM's, so if you're looking for bang-for-the-buck, go with an FWI, U-Bend delete, and a DHP Stage 1 PCM. That's a good start, anyways. You can always go crazy on the engine later...

U-Bend and Intake are the best places to start. Thats what I did! It made a pretty big difference, IMO.

Dave, have you considered doing a L67/L32 top end swap? If not, you might want to read over on ClubGP or one of the other more 2nd Gen oriented boards about it. There are quite a few top end swapped cars these days and they're pretty quick with just the swap + a few other small things done.
