I read somewhere that the Series III 3800 has better internals than the old series II (along with the electronic throttle, etc)

Now I also read that the year prior to making the III they actually started to put III internals in II engines, but the rest being the same as the old series II.

I know the GP got the series III in 2004 obviously, but did any other cars have them or they all got the switch in 2005?  So does that mean that some 2003s got the new internals or just in 2004?

the III's do have stronger internals (i think mainly rods), but i never heard that 03 II's got any.  i didnt think anything other than the GP got the III until maybe the latest buicks that still have the "old technology".

Yeah, I guess the LaCrosse and Lucerne are the only other vehicles with the (series III) 3800, cause Chev uses the 3500/3900 same with the vans.  The Lucerne is a great car and moves surprisingly well for a big car, it's really just an improved LeSabre..

heres the link:

Also note that Series III engines are the base for any 3800 produced for the 2004 year and up. This means the same block, heads, & connecting rods apply to any remaining Series II engines made after 2004 also. The difference is that Series III engines received the new superchargers (Generation 5 - Eaton m90 - if equipped), intake manifolds, fuel systems, and electronics.

So I guess a 2005 gen II Impala or Regal/LeSabre might have the better internals?

Maybe the Impala, but I think the Regal stopped in 04.

I have seen some posts on regalgs.org about some 2004 Regals with the series 3 connecting rods.  I've also seen some info about some early 2004 model year GP's with the series 2 connecting rods.  I don't think anyone really knows when the actual cut off was.
