Hey guys, so today I was out with my friend with a Regal GS today cruising around here out at NIU, I wasn't beating on it, no WOT runs or anything, never went above 4k rpms. On the cruise I started hearing a tapping sound. Pulled off to investigate and something was tapping in the motor. At this point we were probably 30 miles from home, so we just decided to try to make it home. Well we got exactly halfway(according to the tow truck mileage log) and it dies.....try to start it and it sounds like the motor is in 1,000 pieces. At first guess I thought it was either I spun a bearing, or the flexplate cracked(remembered it makes a similar sound when I've heard other cars). Well, I'm pretty sure it's the motor...blew a rod or spun a bearing.

I have it towed back to town, and I left it there. So, here is where I'm stumped...I wasn't beating on, I rarely...if ever beat on my car. And it's STOCK. The K&N cone is my ONLY mod. 63k miles on the car...car/engine/trans/pretty much everything except maintenance things I've done in the last year(including LIM gasket). So, my question is, why????

must be a bad omen for being a traitor and going 2nd gen  tongue

no, I'm really sorry to hear that.  sometimes, you just get a bad motor or things happen.

time for an L32 swap  tongue

Well upon suggested diagnoses(sp?..plural? lol ) from guys I've talked to it sounds like a spun bearing(what I guessed) from my previous lim gasket failure.  Too much coolant in the oil, giving it that milky look(what I found on the dipstick and oil cap) and I guess weakening the bearings.  Luckily the car's still under warranty for another 11 months.

Since the warranty is in place...nay on the L67.

Well, a long due update for anybody who wants to read it.

Motor is torn down and they found scoring on the cam bearings, as well as oil in the pan(duh) and oil in the oil pump as well.  So, I guess that scared them a bit.  And instead of just doing new bearings, and the #6 rod that went the dealer suggested to GM to do an entire new long block, just in case this shit didn't happen again with just rebuilding my current motor.

So, GM approved of the decision, and are fully covering a new long block!!!  Warranty FTW.
