today i went out and checked the CV shaft that i replaced last week and once again, the clamp for the inner CV joint is gone and grease is being flung everywhere roll  this is already the 2nd shaft i've installed in less than a month!  both of them were brand new (not reman) NAPA axles and both of them failed the same way.

i had my brother hold the brake down and rev the engine in reverse and then drive and it looks like the problem is likely caused by bad motor and/or trans mounts.  it moved alot more than i thought it should   which is surprising to me because i've never heard or felt a "clunk" when putting the car into gear.

soooo...i'm going to order new motor and trans mounts for it.  i'm planning on ordering the offset poly dogbones from ZZP since i'll be lowering the car soon, but does anyone have any suggestions on the lower motor mount and trans mount?  i'd like to get poly.  is ZZP the only way to go?

TIA

i found the problem.  i poked my head up under the car and pulled the plastic fender liner away so i could watch the trans mount as my brother loaded the engine in reverse and then drive.  sure enough it's broken, causing the engine/trans to rotate way too much under load.  thankfully, both the lower engine mount and transmission mount are easy to replace.

i'm planning on getting the ZZP offset poly dogbone mounts (since i'm lowering the car), the Intense poly round dogbone bushings, and buy new solid motor and trans mounts from NAPA.  of course, i'll be ordering a transmission mount for a '98 GTP and NOT a Regal GS.

i replaced the axle again today.  thankfully NAPA let me exchange it for free again.  i also ordered a new solid motor mount and a solid transmission mount for the car and they should be here tomarrow.  meanwhile, i took the transmission mount and the engine mount out of the car today and they both actually looked fine.  unfortunately, this time i found the REAL problem sad  when i went to take the lower motor mount out i found that the bracket wasn't even bolted to the engine on one side!  the two bolts on the rear side were completely missing, and the two bolts on the front side were very very loose.  as you can imagine, the engine couldn't possibly stay in place this way.  the bracket was literally just about to come off completely.  the real shitty thing is, it looks like i have to pull the engine out just to replace the two bolts for the horseshoe engine mount bracket.  there is no way i could tighten them with the transmission in the way, hell i doubt i could even fit the bolts in to start threading them in.

sooo...time to pull the engine out of the GS.  on the bright side one of my friend's is buying my Trofeo tomarrow so at least i'll have some cash to get this shit fixed.  and thankfully my brother is going to let me drive his Spirit R/T for awhile until i get the GS fixed.

damn i can't wait to get a NICE car.  i'm sick of this shit.

man i hope so.  the transmission is right behind the bolt holes.  i seriously doubt i could get a ratchet/socket in there, but i might have enough room for an end wrench.

It seems that you don't need to do too much to get the mount out!

thanks for the link though!

from the looks of it i can R&R those bolts without separating the engine from the transmission.  i really hope this is the case.  when i was looking in there earlier it looked impossible.  it looks like there is actually 3 bolts on the rear side.

Oh man, I had the wrong mount in my mind the whole time! I kept thinking trans mount!

I removed that bracket on my cousin's 91 Euro. I just put a jack with a piece of 2x4 on top under the oil pan and jacked it up. It was kinda a pain to get it out but I got it.  now I'm sure the bracket on the Regal is slightly different, but I'm sure you'll beable to get it out!

yeah the trans mount was easy.  i haven't replaced it yet but i did have both the trans mount and the engine mount out of the car for awhile today just because i wanted to get a look at their condition.  i just put them back in until the new ones get here.  like you i used a big block of wood and a hydraulic jack.  everything was smooth sailing until i found the engine mount bracket problem.  ugh.

i went over and looked at it again with a flashlight.  i think i could probably fit a socket and wrench back there.  the bracket itself was actually further back than where it was supposed to bolt down, so with it pulled outward (and in the right place) it looks like i would probably have just enough room to get a wrench on the bolts.  i guess i'll find out tomarrow.

for some reason my bracket only has two bolts per side, unlike the one pictured in the link above.

anyone know if i can probably get these bolts from the dealership?  i can't think of any cars in the j/y around here that would have those bolts.  and it would suck to drive a long ways for a couple bolts.

they should be just regular bolts.  cant be harder than the front engine mount on a 3.4.
