does anyone have any suggestions on how i can get my fuel pump pushed down far enough so that i can put the lock ring on?

i've tried pushing down as far as i can and there still isn't enough clearance to put the lock ring in place.  i have an appointment to get it done on Monday but if i can i'd like to avoid paying the $70 just for someone else to install the lock ring (actually a large snap ring).

i'm tempted to try using a small jack to push down on top of the fuel pump against the bottom side of the package shelf!

I GOT IT!!!!

i went to Wal-Mart and bought a bottle jack to help press down on the top of the fuel pump module.  that seemed to do the trick.  i then removed the bottle jack and put the lock ring on.  it was still quite a bitch to get the lock ring under all 5 tabs but eventually i got it.

i was a little worried i fucked up the sending unit (it was reading 1/2 tank when i was done but i thought it was close to full).  well i went and got gas and sure enough i put $14 in gas in and the gauge now reads FULL.  so all seems well.  my Regal GS now has a PRJ venturi style Walbro 255 fuel pump and a working gas gauge. cool
