as most of you know the '97/'98 L67 has a shitty restrictive airbox and i would like to upgrade to the '99+ style airbox.  i know this requires relocating & replacing the current coolant overflow tank with a '99+ version but Dan was saying something about how my ABS was in the way preventing me from mounting the '99+ coolant overflow tank??  so do i just need to go get a universal style coolant overflow tank and mount it somewhere, then buy a '99+ airbox and put it in?

right now the car just has a cone filter right off the F-duct (WAI) and i don't really like it.  it makes the SC whine louder which is cool, but at idle and just off idle it sounds like a PS pump that has bad bearings :?  i think it makes the gas mileage way worse too.  my average MPG on the DIC used to be 22-ish but today it was like 15.9 :?  and i haven't even been 'getting on it'.

i would go with a homemade FWI or even something like the Wizaired box but i'd rather turbocharge the car later on and i don't want to spend $$ on something that's going to be worthless later.

TIA

Yes, the Traction control pump may get in the way of the 99+ coolant overflow thank. You may be able to get a TGP style 1st gen washer fluid tank and put it above the battery.  I think that would work nicely.

Also, if you clean the IAC passage in the Throttle body it will reduce the intake noise on cold start.

hrmm, i wonder if my TSTE has been crushed yet lol  i know my brother got a small universal style coolant overflow tank for his Omni GLH Turbo when he added the big NPR FMIC, so i think i might try doing the same.  i'm just not sure where to put it.

that's what it looks like in his Omni:

Josh with any fwi or box it will make that sound.  IAC is noisy.  And I highly doubt it would make gas mileage worse.  That regal never got good mileage when I had it.  And josh I can give you my 99+ airbox as I have no use for it.

i was just referring to the DIC.  15-16mpg average is wayyyy below the 21-22mpg it used to read.

My buddy has a 97 GTP and he changed over to the newer style washer fluid and coolant bottles. I wasn't here when he mounted the coolant bottle but it was a bitch IIRC. He ended up mounting it using a drywall screw and the sucker is never coming off, lol.

Ya but the abs/traction control shit is in the way on the regals to use the newer style bottle.

ah well.  more reason to go with FWI.  i probably won't do that until i get some other mods too (DHP PCM and 3" DP at least).  it's gonna be awhile before i do any Regal mods though.  gotta get my priorities straight.

HA!  a good job sure helps! biggrin

a year after owning this car i'm finally starting to mod it.  i ordered the JMB FWI last night, so no '99 coolant recovery tank needed here woot!  i can't believe i even considered "upgrading" to the '99+ airbox lol.

I've heard good things about the JMB intake.   I'm still too cheap to buy one though. $45 Lowes intake FTW! biggrin
