i once changed a water pump (first time ever changing one in anything) on a malibu with the 3100 and it took me 20 mins.

Doing anything on a 3.1/3100 is usually pretty simple; well that's unless you're trying to win a drag race.

the 3.4 is one of the worst engines ive seen to work on in my whole life. if you have to change your alternator, you might as well drop the whole engine and subframe out the bottom, and while your at it fix the oil pump drive seal, change the timing belt and all the intake gaskets... hell while its out why not throw on a new O2 sensor?

DOHC is a love/hate relationship. You'll love to hate the DOHC. Being under the hood of the damned thing EVERY DAY just to keep it running was a load of shit. Having it towed home 4 times in less than a year is a load of shit. Paid $1150 for the damned thing and while it is a gorgeous car, it wasn't worth it. Spent close to $2500 on it and ended up selling it for $1000.  |
