Hi guys! I found this site when looking for information on my car... and thought it was a nice community to join (but I will be asking you guys for help on a couple things later).
Well first, a little about myself. I'm 17 years old and have been licensed since January of 2009. I'm starting my senior year of high school on Monday. I work for a local auto parts store (not one of those giant chains) and help with all tasks including answering the phone and taking orders, helping customers to find what they need, delivering parts to local garages, and maintaining the fleet company vehicles for my store. My father is the store manager. I LOVE my job and wouldn't rather work anywhere else (well, at least till I go to college).
A few days ago I purchased my first car with my own hard-earned money. My car is a 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix SE coupe. Dark green with a black leather interior, sunroof, power windows, HUD, CD player, trip computer, remote keyless entry, and remote start. It has the 3.1 liter "3100" V6 engine. It has 90,700 (give or take) original miles. I paid $1300 cash for it. The whole car needed a thorough cleaning, and the paint is rough in areas, but overall the car is very solid and mostly mechanically sound. I've loved these cars for years, I remember having a picture of a baby blue Grand Prix of a similar year hanging on the wall in the basement of my house as a kid, and I always really liked the car.
Looking back now, it was I guess pretty inevitable I would end up with a W-body car. The first car I looked at when I was looking for my car was a 1998 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Z34 with the 3800 Series II engine that ran smooth as glass. It had 125,000 miles on it, body was flawless, interior was rough, but it needed work. The car was fully loaded with leather, sunroof, the works. The seller only wanted $900 (as of the time I'm writing this, he hasn't sold it yet) for it. The work it needed included a catalytic converter, a latch for the glove compartment, hinge for center console, a radio, ignition key and tumbler, and the shift linkage was loose. Oh yeah, it needed to have a recovered title made which is a pain in the butt process and thats why my dad made me move on.
Second car I really considered was a 1994 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. It was, however, near the top of my price range and needed a lot of work.
So I eventually ended up with my third consideration, which was the lovely 95 GP thats sitting in front of my house.
Sorry, didn't mean to ramble. I'm a bit of a car nut and son of a mechanic turned auto parts store manager, so I kind of always have it on my mind.
