Ok, so yesterday i went to our local paint store, and purchased a couple cans each of primer, torch red, and clear coat.... now i have no idea what i did last night (i was BEYOND drunk) but i do have some knowledge of painting plastic. hahaha i know the parts were all cleaned with what im presuming was hot water and some Mr.Clean... laugh if you will but its what i was taught from more than one body shop. they were then scuffed, i think.... as there are a couple of scotch bright pads laying around.
now im assuming i went primer colour clear.... but a little too thick in a couple spots. lol it turned out good enough for me really, aside from the two cracks (and NO runs) in any of it. lol but what im wondering, is have you guys had any luck with painting plastic? a friend of mine was going to dye the trim parts for me and clear coat them. but hes taking FOREVER. so i got a second set just to paint and piss around with. the parts i F'ed up on are the worst ones too. lol the main trim part for the dash, and the part for around the shifter. the dash being worse than the shifter. i think im just going to re do these parts.... whats ur guys thoughts on painted interiors? im not going over kill, just enough to get some red accents in there. -similar to a newer car

I painted my Indy SS grille body color. I scuffed it with a red Scotch Brite pad then rinsed it off. After it dried, I hit it with a couple coats of DupliColor adhesion promoter, followed by 4 coats of color and 3 coats of clear.
I put it on the car 7 months ago and it's still holding up fine.

it really isnt that orange.... but i didnt feel like changing settings on the camera. not done either. when i redo the shifter plate im going to mask off the middle so it stays black (or paint over it with black) plus i still have to put the bottom of it back in with the light and the gear indicator. like it or hate it, i dont mind it. lol

Boy does this sound familiar...
I used Plastikote Vinyl Color to paint mine. It's designed for painting interiors and such. Came out pretty good (except where I painted over that rubber coating on the dash). The console especially worked out well... its pretty scuff resistant too.

thanks guys... i thought its pretty cool too. the red is a colour match for the body, well reasonably close. and i did this to a couple other cars i had... a prelude and a neon. but i had a body shop paint them, the one i worked at. lol and they turned out WAY better than spray can clear coat did. but i probably could wet sand and polish them if i REALLY wanted. lol
like i said before though, i have two parts to redo cuz of paint beind sprayed either too thick or too soon, and it made wrinkles in the surface, you cant see em in that photo, but its pretty bad. ill take the parts out today when i replace them and shoot a couple pics of my fawk ups.
anyone have any suggestions for sticking the squishy shit back onto the dash?? namely on the drivers side lower panel where its starting to peel off by the access panel every gm has... but ive never seen a car with a padded bottom of dash. lol but yes, the padding is starting to come off of the plastic, in lots of spots, so what do you guys recommend to stick that shit back down with?

Looks nice, but looks better in Luminas, Monte Carlos and GPs though. Regals and Cutlasses have that kinda classy interior where nothing would look good painted. I agree with Jake on that. However, the 95+ Regals and Cutlass dashes seem like they would be a little more paintable than the 88-94 dashes.

not entirely true... my regal came with wood grain all over the dash and doors. in the JY i found aluminum trim to replace it all with. looked MUCH better. theres always a way to add colour, just somethings are easier than others. (painting is easier to me than sewing!!)

Well the only thing I plan on painting on the inside of my Cutlass is the upper defrost vent. Its black right now because when I had a new windshield put in due to a hairline crack across the bottom they broke the vent and bought me a new one which came black.

yeah that graphite look is what i found for my regal. matter of fact the car i got it from DIDNT have power windows!! so i had to look for switches from a cutlass (which are almost identical in every way... almost. they plug in and almost fill the hole in the door, but they work backwards. lol up is down and down is up. ) needless to say i sold the buick with wood grain window switches and brushed metal dash.

It looks really good. Even if my GP had auto headlights I'd still use the manual override... In my state of PA there are two frustrating laws:
-Headlights must be on in a construction zone -If your wipers are on, so must be your headlights.
