My bro has a 98 GTP with an oil leak.  The back half of the block is pretty wet, and the other day we drove it back from Louisville to Binghamton.  It's leaking minimal amounts of oil, but its bad enough that you can smell it and I actually could see it burning off the converter when we got home.

The surface around the pan looks wet, which may very well be the culprit, but just below the rear head and around one of the freeze plugs is wet too.  I pulled the cover to expose the flexplate thinking it was the rear main, but it appears dry in there.  I'm guessing its the rocker cover gasket, probably the lower intake is partly to blame too.

Can anyone give me info on the likelihood of the pan gasket failing?  Also is is possible to remove it and replace it with the engine in the car?  Any other common places for leaks on this beast?  I'm not too familiar with these L67 common probs.

Do you have any input about the lower intake gaskets on the s/c engine?  Anyone?  Are they shat or should I just leave 'em alone and do the rocker gasket and call it a day?

Id guess its the vavle cover, if its leaking down on to the manifolds and burning, thats common on any engine. The lower intake could leak as well.
