Have had this problem for a while now....the car performs great and when tested the electrical system is fine, usually tests out between 11 and 13 volts....the only thing is this damned alternator whine ( NOT coming from speakers, mind you. atm there is no head unit at all in my car, lol. the noise has been there regardless of presence of a stereo ). It's coming from the alternator itself because i tried disconnecting it and running the engine off of the battery and it ran sweet as a nut -- until the battery died. The sound increases with engine RPM's and goes away around 4500-5500 RPMs just because the sound of the engine overpowers that of the alternator. The alternator that came with the car was complete crap and whined terribly plus it didn't work at all so i purchased a new one and it's....quieter than the old one but the sound is still very noticeable. please help!

EDIT: BTW.....the car is running perfect otherwise, this is the car i bought for $400 that had 'blown motor' written on the forsale sign that i talked about in another thread. VERY dependable despite the abuse it's been through and quite powerful as well.

When you disconnected the alternator, did you just unplug it? or take the belt off?
