Well I, too have joined the fray of homemade 3400 FWI's. I cheaped out on the filter and bought a $24 PepBoys ricer special instead of springing $69.99 for a genuine K&N. Otherwise I took a 14 1/2" length of 3" ABS, glued it to a 45* street elbow on one end, and tied the other end into the MAF with a rubber coupler. Where the pipe passes through the core support, I installed a rubber roof flashing. I attempted to hold it to the core support with some double-sided tape, but the tape wouldn't hold against the flashing. I'm thinking about making a frame out of some aluminum strapping to keep it in place against the core support. I also ran a pipe clamp to the inner fender to hold the pipe in place above the PCM and core support, and away from the headlight. I also bought and installed a PCM Tray, as the PCM normally resides inside the stock airbox. Anyways, a week after installation, all appears to be well. No vibrations, squeaks, or rattles are present. I'm not too sure whether or not I gained any HP, but the thing sure does sound cool when you drop the hammer while you're cruising at highway speed!

When you want to step up to a K&N, check out ajusa.com Kevin. They usually have lower prices than anyone else on them. EDIT: S&B filters are another option, they're on par with K&N's or supposedly a bit better. http://www.bakerprecision.com/sandb1.htm

Awsome. It's nice having room on these cars to make FWI/CAI unlike my GP which had a bunch of shit (including the battery) in the way...

If I didn't have to bother with swapping out in the winter to avoid potential motor damage, I would put one in for sure.

Impala FWI usually go directly behind or slightly below the driverside headlight. When you take it to the track, you take out the driver side headlight to allow additional air into the area. From NewImpala forums, you could try looking up 04DetroitLS. He has done this several times and taken pictures of his car with the light removed. He also runs 13.5's in the quarter mile, but that's another story

Impala headlight removal procedure:
1.) Raise hood 2.) Remove 3 "push-in" style retaining clips from splash shield between grille and core support, and remove splash shield 3.) Remove 2 white clips from each side of headlight 4.) Remove headlight
