Ok thanks guys, the only reason I was asking is that I have found several websites selling them for 97 and up Luminas/Monte Carlo's. They may have not come with one, but apparaently one can be added from what I have been reading. http://www.polarbearinc.com/PBPC/homepage/Search/FI/cabin%20air%20filters.htmlJason

You can add one to almost any car. I added one to my 1988 Cutlass Supreme just to keep LEAVES from getting in there. Only thing is, it is a PITA to chage out in the GEN 1 cars.

Update.......so I lifted up the black piece under the passenger windshield wiper today and found the opening where the air gets sucked it. There was no filter there, however, from what I gather you can just drop one in there. I think the most common one is model "CF-102" its actually moulded to fit the opening, so I am going to order one and try it.

Yeah, not tough to do (although it seems needlessly complicated) on the 00-05 Impalas.
I imagine that the airbox for the cabin would be in the same general area for first gen cars... under the hood/windshield "tray", there should be a formed plastic box.
There was a pretty drastic improvement when I changed the filter, though.
