Just came across these on the ZZP website.  Very good adapter plates if you want to use the GM strut bar that comes with the 2000 to 2003 Monte Carlo among others...

http://www.zzperformance.com/grand_prix/products1.php?id=139&catid=138

I ordered a set and I ordered the 2 strut bar combo kit for front and back.
GM part # 12498648

NOTE:  there are 2 different plates....  For early model W-Bodies and Late model ones.  There are instructions there telling you how to tell which one you need.

this was discussed many of times on the other forum...the ones for teh 1st gens dont fit worth a crap!...you have to slot the holes in your bar to make them work, there were also a few member that had the bar hit the hood so bad that the rear of the hood lifted up when they tried to close it...i do NOT recommend those...

Ok, good to know.  there is a guy with a 2006 Imp SS that put them on and he said they fit like a glove.

I guess they did not do their homework for the early models!

I put the strut bar on my 1988 Cutlass Supreme, and my 1996 Grand Prix.

But I used the parts that came with the car.  I tried to swap them from my 1996 Grand Prix Sedan onto my 1990 Grand Prix sedan, and they did not fit, but I did not fill like redoing them.  Besides, I could not tell and differance.

If you use the stock parts to mount them, then they will fit.

I only removed it from my 1988 because when I installed the 140 amp alt, it hit the alt.

yeah, i think you're exaclty right...some people thought they sent the wrong brackets, but i just dont think they did a very good job testing the 1st gens...i know i had to slot the bar when i installed them on my cutlass...its just not worth all that work, especially for the price they are selling them for...i havent heard anything bad about them on the 2nd gens though...so they musta made those right...
