so, my 91 gtp 5sp is supposed to arrive tuesday some time.  it has a 96 block w/ original heads and intake.  obviously its loaded cuz its a gtp.  it has gray leather and a sunroof.  it has an engine noise that i have only heard video of so im not sure if its coming from the top end or bottom end. some pics and vid in the following posts:
http://lukez34.com/galleries/gtp/purchase_pics/
http://lukez34.com/galleries/gtp/GTP.avi
http://www.lukez34.com/galleries/gtp/feb2
http://lukez34.com/galleries/gtp/mar2/

a lot depends on whats wrong w/ the engine.  if its something i can easily fix, im going to just do that and prob do 96 intake on it later.  if it needs rebuilt im gonna find a complete 96 engine w/ harness, throw the block in the car w/ the 91 heads and rebuild the engine thats in it now and p&p the 96 heads and intakes and do an OBD2 swap when i get the engine rebuilt.  i'm trying to decide if i want to just to restore it to new condition (minus the 96 engine and probably front and rear 94+ brakes w/ upgraded rotors and pads). so i kind of have like a time warp since its a pretty rare car or if i wanna go all out and do f&r coilovers w/ aftermarket wheels and 2DIN dvd player w/ a 250+ whp engine w/ 100 shot of N2O and kick-ass stereo.  as you can see by the pics, some interior pieces were painted red so they obviously need replaced and the seats arent in the greatest shape.  so i have a few questions (for now):

1. should i go all out or just restore it to stock?
2. where can i fit a 2DIN dvd player? is it possible?
3. can i take the red paint off the pieces somehow w/o ruining them or do i have to just replace them?
4. does anyone have any of the interior pieces that need replaced?

i may just use this thread as a restore thread or make separate threads for bigger projects.  im not going to be able to spend a lot of money on this per month as im paying off my credit card completely and hoping to buy a house pretty soon.  any comments are welcome.  dont make me post on the other board too lol

For the interior pieces you could lightly sand them and paint them black until you find stock ones (if you decide you even NEED to change them after repaint).  Removing the red paint will likely make the plastic very dull looking.

I would just restore the engine to stock, at least until you got the car running 100% and have everything else fixed on it (you might need to change struts or something which can add up $$).

thats what i figured.

supposedly it has newer struts all around, a newer reman trans and everything is supposed to work.  it does need a cat (cheap) and windshield (need to get a quote).  im def gonna piece together the 94+ brake upgrades and upgraded friction parts.  not sure how bad the brakes are now.

hopefully its something easy in the top end and i dont have to have the bottom end rebuilt yet.

I would definatly do the brake upgrade.  My 88 GP brakes were teh suck compared to my 95 (which has the larger GTP sized rotors).

restoring a car with a default value of $1000 no matter the condition doesn't make sense.

make it how you want.  if you want to go all out and modify everything,  do it.

I'm with Pat on this one.  Who cares if it's in original shape.  It's a Grand Prix.   MAke it how you want it.  If it happens to be all original, then make it all original, if you want it all out, go all out.

Because I'm the go big or go home type of guy, I say build it up!

i know most people dont give a shit about these cars, but i do and i think it would be cool to have one thats redone like it came out of the factory. however, it has too many miles and doesnt have the original block, so a completely stock restoration isnt going to happen.

i think im just gonna keep the interior completely stock looking.  its already lowered in the front but im going to get  a 94+ front assembly and swap it in, so im gonna probably keep the suspension stock for now as well as the rest of the exterior except for the brake upgrades.  im gonna use some silver 5spokes or something for winter and my gunmetal 5spokes for summer since they already have T1S tires on them.  the engine bay is not going to be stock except im probably going to run a hacked airbox w/ k&n insert instead of a fwi.  cant wait till it comes today.  was loaded at 9am yesterday and im supposed to get a call when its closer to time to drop it off (coming today sometime).

5-spokes are lighter for one an not as wide (wider = not better for snow)
