I hate the expense!
Last year when I blew a head gasket, GM wanted $1500 plus parts. In the end it ended up costing me $500 plus parts, but took for ever to get done

I also hate the aftermarket for it, but this is partly because my car is OBD 1.5, I can't even find myself a scanner to get codes off it.

I like the torque of the LQ1, but as soon as I can afford it, I will be swapping it out for an L67. At least if I blow a head gasket on that engine I can fix it myself without worrying about messing up the timing. If it weren't for not having a clue what I was doing with the timing (no matter how many times I had it explained to me) I would of fixed my own head gaskets last summer!.

I don't mind working on them...I just don't want one of my own. lol

im with him, they are easy to work on minus the alt(and maybe the crank sensor if u have an auto). other than that the starter can be a pain if u have a/c and/or an oil cooler.

also with a few changes in some bracketry you can make them easier.

i have a 91-95 that i was running and now a 96-97 plenum assy i can pull in 5 minutes flat with hand tools.
