lets get this out of the way and make it a sticky, so we dont have to have these conversations (or not cuz im a dipshit) my answer: 1. little aftermarket for rebuilding and modification 2. $350 in parts to take it apart to the block and do timing belt (cheaper than most imports though) thats it. other than that, i love it.

i can only think of one thing i absolutely hate about the lq1. the damn alternator location.
the lack of aftermarket annoy's me but from experience it is b/c most of the owners are cheap bastards and do not want to spend any money for parts.

alternator placement is my only problem with it. other than that mine were always realiable even when rode hard, delivered good mpg, and enough power to take out any riced out anything that tried to race me.

I often ask myself this question, and lets just put it this way...
If I have just ONE MORE PROBLEM with the 3.4 in my 1995 Cutlass Supreme, I am going to scrap it and do a 3.1 swap. I would rather have the reliability of the 3.1 MPFI at this point than mess with this POS 3.4 anymore.
Now that that is out of my system, I am going to fix my 3.4, but once it blows up again, it is getting a swap. Dont know what yet, but it will be at LEAST a 1995 year model engine (older engines can NOT be used in newer cars here in Texas, or else they automaticallly fail inspection). I can only get away with using a 1994 engine in my 1995 car because there is no differances between the 2. If I put any other engine in that car, it has to be 1995 and newer, but I am already making plans.
Bigggest hate is that it is a PITA just to do just about anything to that engine.
Hate the ALT location, Hate the lack of room hate the lack of aftermarket hate how expensive everything is hate the attitudes of people that think this is the greatest engine ever created (direct jab at AARON) hate how HEAVY the engine is (did a 3400 swap in a friend Grand Prix that had the twin cam, and it lifted the front of the car almost 2 inches higher).

I hate...... that my only 3.4 is in a car with a collapsing rear structure and rusted out brake lines... meaning I cannot truely road test it!
I drove it home and had fun dusting my friend driving my 93 vert behind me on interstate on ramps. but maybe that engine might find a home in something else soon.

okay, i hate the alt. too i think you just hate aaron . i dont think theres too many other people that think its the greatest in the world. okay, adam, ill quit giving you shit  i dont think the engine bay is that cramped, especially when compared to some other cars ive seen. i'd rather do plugs on a 96-97 LQ1 than an L67 W8 Passat

I'd rather work on an LQ1 then an LHO or a 3x00 engine..... That is, unless it's an alternator.

I love mine, most reliable thing Ive ever driven. However the automatic bores me anymore, which is why i have a 284 sitting on the garage floor right now!
I'd complain about the alternator, but I had one go on me right after i got the car and I've had 73,000 miles of smooth sailing since with the current one. The room in the engine bay isn't that bad to work with.
