yes I am gay, and I will never desecrate one of my cars with a buick boat anchor for an engine. Especially knowing that an N/A 3100 can be built up to tear a 3800 SC to pieces. My gold cars 3100 would eat a 3800 alive.
i made the homo comment as a joke... what kinda MAN would drive a 2.8 in a 3000lb car? Meh imma pass on the flaming BBQ, and besides that swap is a bit more of a resource/money drain then a simple 3100 swap would be
if u burn down an L67 then u shouldnt own a car. theyre just as eligible for the title of carbecue as an LQ1. if its leaking oil -into an area where its going to collect, then yes. it will start on fire. and im also willing to bet that an L67 can be built into something with more power than a 3100. ive seen and ridden in *but not driven, a 450HP bonnieville. that thing could eat a v8 mustang and shit out a v6 camaro. never saw it race anything else tho... lets see some vids of these monster 3100s, im curious. i drove a G6GT today, the 3900 seems to have more power than the 3800 if u ask me. how much work would it be to put one of those in a W?

Ask RobertISaar about the 3900. Its a project he's been working out mentally for a long time now.

I lost most of my vids when my last computers harddrive crashed, and I never got any vids of it after it was tuned, and before I blew up the engine (which was due to my not fixing an oil leak, nothing failing).
I have seen a LOT of 3800's, both supercharged and NA catch fire. I have seen only a couple 3x00's.
I don't like the 3.4 DOHC either. I have one, but does not mean I like it. If anything happens to that engine, my vert will either go to the junkyard, or get a 3x00.
I also would happily put a 2.8 in a 4000 lb car. I had one in my gold car. It was strong, and reliable. Hell, the 2.8 was only 10 HP and 10 TQ less than the 3.1
One last point, if I bored and stroked a 3100 to be 3.8 liters, it would still be more powerful than the 3800 (if I could keep the same efficiency at making power). That a bored out 60 degree 3800, and add a blower or forced induction of some sort, and it would be a REAL beast.
Before this turns into a flame war, one thing about me you should know. I don't just arbitrarily hate an engine. I do my research first. I know enough about the 3800 and 3800 SC MECHANICALLY, INTERNALLY, and OVERALL DESIGN to know it is a HORRIBLE engine (hence the harmonic balancer the size of a spare tire among other things). I don't deny that it makes power and is reliable when taken care of. I am just saying it is not gods gift to mechanics. Neither is the 3100. but I would rather have a 2.8 mpfi than a 3800 SC in my car any day.
And we all know, the REAL engine that is the messiah to the engine world is really the 4.6 DOHC from a Cobra, or Mark VIII.

You can make ANYTHING squeak the tires if u know what ur doin. Hell i've seen riding lawn mowers that could squeak the tires too Lol And we all know, the REAL engine that is the messiah to the engine world is really the 4.6 DOHC from a Cobra, or Mark VIII.
ahhh good ole 5.0L and 4.6L DOHC from Ford = Win

you da man homobro!!! lol no nothing against you, but i agree with the point of your post, in the fact that i dont really hate anything. i dont like and hate the way a factory 3.1 is, and would never use a stock 2.8. but thats because i dont know how to make those piles of shit do what i want them to. i would take a 3.4DOHC over those any day. and really. on the road ive seen 3 SMOKING out of the top drivers side of the hood (oil pump drive seal) and 0 L67 powered cars, including in the junk yard that have smoked that bad or burned down

Just drop in a 4.3 turbo and be done with it. And Taylor, you've wanted a convertible for too long. You'll drop in a 3x00. Like with the top, you wouldn't have junked it, you would have made a damn roadster out of the fucking thing.

I like my 3.1, it moves my Grand Prix very well! Even my 6000 has plenty of power with its normal 3.1 and its got 240k on it!

well, I didn't say I would put a STOCK 2.8 in it. I just said I would take a stock 2.8 over the 3800 and 3.4 DOHC. Just cause I would take it does not mean I would actually drop it in there that way.
If I put a 2.8 in the gold car, trust me, it will be "tweaked"

you know, I had a friend that used to say the same thing about taking a 3100 over a 3.4 DOHC. That was until he drove my gold car. I guarantee that if you drive one that is built RIGHT, you might not be so hesitant to take one. At one time, I was the same way about the 3100. It was not until I decided to take a CHALLENGE and build one for myself that my opinion really changed.
Once upon a time, I too thought the 3800 was the shiznit. It was not until I started reading up on the actual mechanical aspects to the engine that I started seeing that it was not quite what everyone thought it would be. It is heavy, bulky, and has a lot of poorly designed aspects behind it (a 90* V6 is a naturally UNBALANCED engine).

Ill take my Turbo 3.1 to a Supercharged 3800, and id take my 3.1 over a 3.8 of the same vintage, they didnt have overwhelmingly higher power. The 3100 wasnt TOO far off from a series 1 3800. 3100-160hp 185ft lbs, 3800 series 1 - 170hp 200 ft lbs of tq. The 3100 is more than adequate to move these cars. 60* V6s are still made, GM dropped the 90* finally, hmm wonder why

i am tempted to dig up that paper I wrote over on 60 degree V6 about these engines and the efficiency of their engines at making power. I did up all of the basic GM engines (especially those found in w-bodies, and did a formula for how much power per litre it was making, and compared them all, then listed them all in order.
I also separated the list into 2 groups. Normal engines, and "high feature" engines. The results were surprising. I was REALLY surprised to find which engine in the NORMAL category made the most power per liter. It was definatly an eye opener.
