This has puzzled me ever sine I was a little kid. My mom's first brand car(not used) was a 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme Coupe, white. Here's where it separates from the pack. It had a white body kit/"Ground Effects Package" and spoiler on it. At the front of the door on the body kit it said "GST." I have never seen a kit on another olds like this one. Razzi had one similar to it a while back, but not the same. The other kicker. Aparently it had a H.O. 3.1 that was specially tuned and it only ran on 93 octane gas. If 87 was put in it, it had 0 power. It was purchased brand new with only a few miles(digi-dash) from a dealer. Is this a one off factory freak or what? It's been tormenting me for the longest time.

Yes, that picture is the car in question. Oh, and on the back bumper there was a 3-4in "lower bumper" that bolted onto the back bumper. It had cutlass stamped in the middle of it, with a rounded rectangular opening in it for the exhaust. The thing sticking out of the trunk is the lower bumper.

Just a plain Cutlass with a body kit...I doubt anything special was done to the engine since it only has a single exhaust. There was probably something WRONG with the engine as octane doesn't make power...It keeps the engine from pinging.
Same as the Cutlass SX...phantom FE3...Cutlass GT. Just a way for dealers to sell a plain Cutlass.

especially with the base model hub caps, GM would never put something like that on an oldsmobile. Looks awful.....and Ocante shouldnt matter....

dealerships would do things like that to help promote lacking sales. If they have a car on the lot that is not selling, they somtimes do things like that to help promote sales. If nothing, it was a dealer special and nothing more.
As for the H.O. 3.1, I have seen dealers do minor engine mods. They MIGHT have put a cam in it or something, but that is not really likely. Like Jay said. It probably had an engine problem, and the higher octane kept the engine from pinging.

Hey there,
If I remember right, the Cutlass Supreme H.O was a very rare dealer option only ordered and available through select dealers in select markets as competition against the Ford Taurus S.H.O. Unlike any other body mods, the Supreme H.O edition's mods were actually made by Fisher Body (look for the royal horse and coach emblem on the inside of the mods), which, as we know, was GM's traditional body maker. The H.O package also included a modified chip as as well as adding a few other mods (maybe even including a turbo-charger like the Grand Prix STEs) as far as I've heard making a traditional 3.1 a high output engine. There was also a mystery enigine available for the Cutlass Supreme H.O only: A 4 cylinder, 240 HP Quad 4 that had debuted in the latest concept called the Aerotech III. Due to the way that the new chip was programmed and other engine mods, the vehicle required mid-grade to super unleaded fuel. This package was also available as a way to appease those who caught a glimpse of the the modified 4 door Cutlass Supreme concept as well, which, actually became the Oldsmobile Intrigue. This package may have been a nice option also due to that it actually gave a place for the fog lamps unlike the basic Cutlass Supreme body.
Another reason that this package is so rare is because traditional Oldsmobile owners and buyers did not like it of course, however, it did appeal to some younger buyers, however, did not sell enough for the package to stay an option in the comming years to follow.
The other packages such as the Phantom FE3 was mostly a suspension package of course, included a very similar body package as well in darker colors.
The GT and SX were even more rare dealer packages as they were only offered in very few states.
Quick note: On 1990 and newer Cutlass Supremes, a little known additional package was offered as well which was actually aptly named Aerotech III or just simply, Aerotech. This package was an exact body cladding duplicate to the concept vehicle, however, the type was soo small for this dealer option, and, usually at the bottom of the list, that buyers rarely noticed that they could chose it.
As far as dealer packages, you may have a rare Cutlass Supreme.
That's as far as I know.
