Well, I've procrastinated a year and gotten away with it. My AC clutch bearing screeches when not in an AC mode. Stops when in a AC mode.

I'd love to be able to replace the bearing/clutch without breaking the freon system. My car is 12 years old and (knock on wood) the air conditioning is working just as good as when I took delivery new. Have you guys done this job without disconnecting and removing the compressor?

you can! very simple, get a AC clutch removal tool, pull the ac compressor off its mount, the lines should give you enough slack. Remove the clutch and pulley, and replace the bearing. No need to breech the system at all
