Yes just picked up a sweet 88 Regal Limited with only 70k on it. Runs and drives like 70k, but the leathers shot. Anyhow none of the backlighting comes on, instruments, controls, climate stuff. Turn signals dont work either. When i hit the lights the digital readout dims as it should (which its the pitiful base cluster with the speedo only digital) I was curious if anybody had the same issue. I was suspecting the headlight switch. I was looking at diagrams and all the backlighting gets its power from the light switch. Fuses are all good. I dont see any obvious wiring issues.

My Cutlass gave me back lighitng problems when the head light switch stopped working. After replacing it worked for a little while.
I found I have a lose pin in my connector and after I tightened up that pin it worked great.
If neither turn signal works (left/right) I'd suggest replacing the flasher first. It's under the dash above your right knee on the driver side.
Also could be a bad bulb/bulbs that wouldn't make it work. Or worst case the switch it self is bad. But they aren't too bad to replace on early first gens because they don't have air bags.

hey thanks alot man, Anybody know how to pull the woodgrain trim on this thing so i can remove the headlight switch. I see no screws and it seems like its gonna break. I got the turn signals working, i just played with the hazard switch over and over and suddenly the flashers started working as did the blinkers.

I've never removed one on a regal before. GM likes to hide bolts for that kind of stuff under other pieces of trim. You may have to remove something else to get to it. If you can find any screws around the gauge cluster bezel. I would start there.

Yeah they use these strange pressure locks (for lack of a batter term) to hold the dash pieces in. You have to pull on it starting from the corner and it'll "pop" out.
I second the headlight switch!

I'd say it's the switch if the dash light pin/wire isn't getting any power.
