i have no personal experience on the 6/6 timing so i cannot say one way or another on it. on the cogs you also need the 96-97 drive gear to go with the cam cogs b/c they have a different tooth count.

oh, come on, youre the dohc god.  you know everything.  biggrin

theres got to be someone with experience on a 96 engine that knows what to do.  well, i was thinking i could use the cams from the 92 since theyre supposed to be better in the 96 cam carrier.??  supposedly, the 96 is already 4 degrees off from a 92 on the exhaust?  side so would i get around that by using 92 cams?  shit, this sucks, only got a few days to figure this out.  i though i had it all worked out already.

not that it matters to anyone, but i guess ill update this mostly for my own reference

I got the engine down to the block 2 weekends ago and replaced the valley gasket and got it all ready to go back together.  I ported and cleaned up the cylinders and sent them out to get shaved .010 and get a valve job only to find out one was cracked, so i go a reman one coming that isnt supposed to arrive till wed.  I'm not sure if it was shaved like the other one or not, but at this point i dont really care that much cuz it wont make that big of a diff.

I also put cams from a 92 Z34 in the 96 cam carriers since theyre supposed to be a little better and i had some laying around.  I gasket-matched the LIM and im going to gasket-match the UIM and port the TB this weekend.  I am going to go with 0/-13* cam timing.  I was going to use 96+ intakes later on, but i think im going to stick with the 91 intakes that are on there right now.   I also polished the front valve cover and im going to polish the UIM, too this weekend.  Can't wait to get this damn thing back together.

i know a bit but not everything sad . on your 92 cams, don't you have to use those lockrings or whatever? i have no experience with those either for a reason, i avoid them like the plague. get yourself a set of 94-95 cams. they have the same specs as your 91-93 cams, they do not have the lockrings that make timing them a  PITA and their gears will work with any 91-95 drive gear.

if you plan on chaning your timing regularly, get yourself a set of cams newer than 93(i.e 94+) you'll save yourself some aggravation later.

hope this helps

i cant spend any more on this thing right now, otherwise, i would love some better cams  biggrin

im using 92 cams in 96 towers, so im using the cogs and everything else from the 96 towers, so i have the benefit old the very minorly (is that even a word?) better 92 cams with the more easily adjustable 94+ cogs.  i dont have to worry about the older style lock rings since the only difference between the cams is the lobes.

guess i shoulda asked aaron.  i think i still have his email address around here somewhere :bonk:  :jk:

runs way better than before, but the top end is lacking like on the old 96 auto.  theres a thread on 60degree i posted that explains it a little more.  there was supposed to be a dyno day tomorrow but it got cancelled, so ill have to take it in sometime next week or something so i can see whats going on a little better.

started running badly last week.  found out the coil for #4 wasnt firing, so i replaced it, but its still acting up.  ordered some KV85 wires today since the ones on there were crap and you could see them sparking through.  hopefully, they will fix my problem.  all the coils are firing good now, so that eliminates coils and icm and i have new rapid fire 12's in there, so that leaves the wires.  they needed repalced anyway.  stupid worthless OBD-I.  only code i was getting was a coolant code.

got the 94+ rear brakes on over the weekend, but i had some problems.  long story short, a cable broke on the ebrake, so im going to order new 94+ ebrake cables and either get a pedal assembly from a 94+ and try to make it work or just get the older style from an auto car. probably will go hit up a pullnsave soon.  im not driving it right now since it has no ebrake.  it NEEDS new lines, so im going to order the goodridge lines soon. im going to save myself the hassle and get the newer style ones.   more money  roll

couple updates:  got the rear brakes all done and made a write-up.  had to change my order to the older style goodridge lines, but it didnt matter cuz they were both on backorder for 3 weeks roll

also got my front brakes done.  just got cheapo rotors and painted my calipers red and my brackets black.  theyll be going as soon as i can swing it in leu of some ebc slotted and dimpled rotors and red stuff pads. i used everything from the old assemblies (repainted them) since they had kyb struts and fairly new ball joints.  got some energy suspension dust boots for the tie rod ends, too.

going to get to work on stripping the clear off the fender trim pieces and reclearing them.  anyone know of a good write-up on the best way to do this?  i already stopped by the auto paint  supply store and got what  they recommended for removing the clear.  i guess i need to know if i should get the paint shiney before i clear or after.  i know...stupid question.

i ordered an FFP UPD last week and fedex ended up shipping it to the wrong person so im still waiting for it  roll

i was going to do a cardomain but i forgot to bring my camera w/ the pix on it with me roll
