since I posted about the HUD dimmer switches, I decided to take some pics of the interior of my 1995 Cutlass Supreme.

This interior was trashed when I got it, and now it looks worse, but it has to get worse before it gets better.

Anyways, the dash is all cracked up, and looks like ass, so I decided tp pull the dash out, fix it, and install the 2000 Grand Prix HUD that I originally had in my 1996 Grand Prix.

So far, I have only gotten the dash out of the car, done some wiring to add the Second Gear Start switch, and got the HUD mounted to the dash.

I also switched out the headlight switch onto the Grand Prix panel.

I still need to wire up the HUD, finish the repairs to the dash, and get it all back together.

Here are some pics of the interior as it is now.

Looks great man! Can't wait to see!

I USED to live on Long Island.  About 3 years ago, I moved back to Texas (Where I am from).  I currently live about 70 miles south of Houston.

That is NOT a Cutlass Supreme airbag.  That is a 1997-ish Oldsmobile Silhouette airbag.  One of the few options that car does NOT have is the radio controls, as well as the digital climate control.  Since I don't have the AC controls, I wanted to get an airbag that does not have AC controls on them.  The Silhouette airbag ONLY has the radio controls, so I got it off of Ebay for only $0.99 (Yes, 99 cents)

Just so you know, you also need a Silhouette RADIO to use it.  The LEFT hand side controls do not work at all, and the RIGHT LOWER controls are not correct.  There are differances between the radios, and airbags.  THEY ARE NOT ALL THE SAME EVEN THOUGH THE LOOK THE SAME.  All I had to do was install the new coil assembly (clockspring), and then connect the 4 wires under the dash.  The Silhouette airbag is also mounted differently, so you will need to get the correct SCREWS for it.  The Cutlass has 4 screws that are just bolted into the airbag, but the Silhouette has 4 locating tabs that are bolted to the WHEEL, and you just press the airbag on.  I had to get the correct screws from Lowe's, but they work fine.

The Silhouette airbag fits onto the Cutlass Supreme Wheel.  The only thing I changed was the coil assembly (which is one I got from a junkyard in penna, coincidentally i got it, and a steering wheel with radio controls for my 1996 Grand Prix when I was moving back to Texas, and since the Grand Prix is totalled, I just to the coil out, and transferred it into this car).

Here is a link to the auction I won on Ebay for the Silhouette Airbag:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&viewitem=&item=120039080451

Since I have moved back home, I have not really been able to work on my cars doing the custom stuff like I want too.  I don't have as many friends here as I did in New York that share my car interests, so I don't have anyone to go to yards with, or to give me a hand with harder things (like getting an engine out of a car).  That is what I miss about New York.  that, and Harry's U-pull-it in Penna.

I want to thank all of you for the complements.  I Started doing this stuff because the people over on w-body.com said it could not be done.  For example, they (as well as the assholes over on clubGP) were the ones that said it was IMPOSSIBLE to use a 2000 Grand Prix HUD in a 1996.  They said it would not fit at all, and it will not plug in.  Turns out the plugs are the SAME, BUT the wires are different.  I just had to move the pins around.  It also snapped right down in place, and worked fine.

Here is a pic of the 2000 Grand Prix GTP HUD I had in my 1996 Grand Prix SE, and as you can see, I also had it so that it would display the RADIO STATION like the newer Grand Prix's do as well:

Well, hell...I'm just over in Austin. Not a long drive at all (well, it will be until I get my suspension done, I'm half afraid it'll come out while driving down 183!). I am from Ohio originally and I do miss the salvage yards up there. There isn't jack here and what there is, is way overpriced. Except for Highway 71 East Auto in Del Valle, which just got in a car I need to go strip for Stevezasycho. He does me right because he wants to hire me bad, but I can't take a job way out there right now with my wife in her state of health.

I also can't find convertible one in the yards here... Which sucks because I've had to resort to ebay. But it kinda evens out in a way, the inflated prices I would have paid to a yard here for what I need matched the inflated prices I paid for the parts from ebay. lol Even a graphite 1992-94 coupe interior is proving elusive here...sad

It really sucks though. Where I would have paid $15 for a part up north turns into a $50 part here. There's a u-pull-it yard or two here...But they rarely have anything worth buying.

That HUD is awesome. I'd like to do some experimenting if I can get a spare Cutlass HUD (mine is so rigged in ,it isn't funny. LOL!)

But I'm retired so if you need anything, like I said I'm not far away.

Always looking for friends to hang out with, and occasionally hit a yard.  Just so you know, I am one of those people that will drive 200 miles to go to a cheap yard, but when I do that, I usually clean the yard out.

Just about EVERYTHING on the interior of the gold car (my 1988 Cutlass Supreme) came from Harry's U-Pull-It in pennsylvania, and at the time, I was living in the middle of Long Island.

Me, Lorenzo (GPSE3400), and Brian (BrianP and also known as Rhedalert) would hop in the car (or sometimes CARS) and leav out to penna at 3-4 AM and stay at the yards til closing.  Got some REALLY good deals there.  I got BOTH of the front GRAPHITE LEATHER seats that are in my 1988 Cutlass Supreme for only $15.00 (FOR BOTH OF THEM, NOT EACH).

To be honest, EVERYTHING has been replaced on the interior of the gold car except for the stuff UNDER the IP carrier (the IP carrier, and wiring harness are new) and the board the headliner is attached too.  Everything else came from Harry's.

There is only a couple of small yards here, but they are fairly resonable.  One of them has a couple of 3.4 DOHC's, and they are going to sell me one for only $175.00 (the Timing belts have snapped on both of them, but I told them I only need a good BLOCK, so that is all they are warranty-ing).

I don't get to get out to often, but my neighbor has family in Austin, so I might be able to get up there sometime (not too sure of her family's name, but her last name is Flint.  She is real active doing re-enactments, and a lot of them are up in that area).

I have heard that there are some good you-pull-it's in Houston, but I have yet to find them.  I did find one yard that let me go out there and look around, but they really did not have anything worth it.  They did have 1 2000 Regal GS out there.  That is what I got the shifter that is currently in my 1995 Cutlass Supreme from.  Other than that, nothing.

Most of the yards here do mostly IMPORTS.  Almost EVERY yard I went too LAUGHED when I asked about AMERICAN parts.

I guess that is PROOF that the american cars do NOT break down.

lol

The yards here do have a pretty good supply of w bodies. Just never anything that I need. Theres a 1992 STE 5 speed in Lampasas and a 1989 GP LE 5 speed out on South Congress. The Cutlasses are mostly base model with any other color interior except graphite. The yard with the STE also has a 1994 CS 3.4. A Del Valle yard had a 1991 3.4 Cutlass SL sedan when I was there, I got the front sway bar off it is all. I paid $40 for it when the same bar would have been $10 in Ohio and it would ave been pulled for me instead of me having to lay in the mud and pull it myself. The yard next door has several early Internationals, 3.4 Luminas and GTPs too. Another yard up in Leander has a Z34 Lumina and some Regal GSs.

I will not go to Capitol Imports though they have several CSs, I asked about a set of Graphite seats and he said he had some and wanted to go ahead and pull them but they were blue bench seats...Assholes. Yeah, blue bench seats in a CS convertible with a (mostly) graphite interior...

I also don't speak Spanish which is why many of my parts are overpriced I've found...I can usually con a friend o go with me that does and get my parts cheaper.

Yeah.  I had to pay $50 for a 1995 Lumina LS with the 3.4 Sway Bar.  They pulled it for me, but still.  That yard still is usually pretty good, but right now, all they have is a 1992 Buick Regal, a 1994 Grand Prix. and a couple of Lumina's (all base except for the one Z34, and the 95 LS).

One thing that is good is that they have a 1996 Buick Riviera, and I am getting the door panels out of it, but that is for a SECRET project.
