no i didn't buy a new car of course, but if i was staying in Wyoming this car would be MINE soon

it's a maroon '92 Grand Prix STE with the LQ1 & automatic transmission. it's 1 of 1127 STEs produced in '92 and
1 of only 571 produced with the LQ1/auto combo (i'm a sucker for rare cars like this). i've seen this car many times over the past 5 years while passing through Douglas, Wyoming on my way to Laramie, Denver etc. it's never moved once; i'm not sure why but probably either a timing belt or transmission issue

it's kind of frustrating in a way, because i would LOVE to replace my Cutlass with this car. if i had the opportunity to buy it i'd just swap over the entire drivetrain - cradle and all and be on my way

it would essentially be a maroon Turbo STE albeit not a 'real' ASC/McLaren Turbo Grand Prix. however, i'm obviously not going to stay in Wyoming because of an old project car i want to buy. the thought of buying it and storing it in my garage before i leave has crossed my mind, although that's highly unlikely.
so anyway, i stopped by about 3 years ago and talked to the owner's wife. she didn't like the car at all and wanted it gone because the car was actually her husband's ex-wife's car

well, curiousity got the best of me so i stopped by again on the way down to Colorado Springs and asked about it. the owner wasn't there but i talked to his son. he told me his parents have been wanting to get rid of all the stuff in their backyard; meaning the car could probably be gotten for pretty cheap! judging from the pics i'd venture to guess the guy is an old school VW nut.
he let me look at the car and take pics etc. it's FULLY loaded - power moonroof, HUD, dark graphite leather AQ9s in excellent shape, 2nd gear start switch, hell it even had factory CD player! the interior was dirty & had some stuff in it but i could tell it would look pretty good with a simple cleaning. unfortunately the car was locked up and he didn't have the keys so i couldn't get inside for a closer look at the interior. the odometer read 148,xxx miles. as for the sunroof being open - he told me the motor burnt out and was stuck that way but at least they closed the sun shade so rain/snow/critters couldn't get in. i looked under the car and saw NO signs of any rust. the only body damage was what you see in the pics below next to the rear door. i guess they slid into a pole on some ice. he said the door still opens/closes normaly so the damage probably isn't
that bad. otherwise there wasn't any other body damage - no hail damage, no cracked front valence or gfx, even the paint looked good (albeit dirty of course) except some fading on the top of the rear bumper.

anyone want to do a Carfax just for the hell of it?
