Well, as I said in my introduction, I came here looking for advice and information my car. I have a few things wrong with it and need some help. My car is a 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix SE Coupe with the 3.1 liter "3100" engine.
Number one: Well, just this evening while out doing some shopping with my brother, I noticed the "Service Engine Soon" light come on. I then checked my gauges to discover that the temperature gauge was very elevated. It was not in the danger zone, but quite near. We were en-route to the mall and were just about there, so I drove carefully to the mall parking lot, parked it, popped the hood, and discovered that neither of the two electric cooling fans were moving. They were working just fine this morning. It seems strange that the fans would just suddenly quit like that. My best guess is a fuse or a relay. Anyone have advice? By the time we left the mall, it had ample cool down time and was back to normal operating range. The fans still were not operating, but the temperature had dropped enough outside and we kept moving and kept the temperature warm, but no where near where it was earlier. We went to a few other stores, all the time running okay though a bit warm, but the Service Engine Soon light didn't come back on. I made it home safely, and nothing was damaged as the vehicle is still running fine.
Number two: My driver's power window keeps coming out of its track! My dad tore the door apart and told me I needed a new front track, and the only place to get that is a junkyard. It appears the felt that lines the track is worn out. Does anyone have any ideas on that?
Number three: My turn signals only function properly when they feel like it, but usually I can force them to come on if I play with the lever enough. We replaced the flasher and the fuses, which did not fix the issue. Everything else on that lever functions properly (Cruise Control, wipers/washers, high beams, etc.). My father said it was most likely a bad turn signal switch, which prompted me to special order one (and they aren't exactly cheap) from one of our suppliers through NY. Is there a chance it could be anything else?
Number four: My sunroof doesn't work. Previous owner told me it needed a new motor. How can I confirm this? when I get around to replacing the motor if it is indeed bad (probably next summer), how do I do that? How can I take out the headliner without damaging it? Where in the ceiling is the motor located?
Number five: One of my taillight lenses is cracked (though not broken) which appears to have allowed moisture to enter over time, leaving kind of a milky-foggy residue around the edges. Can I clean this moisture out or is my only solution getting a new lens?
Number six: I want to touch up my paint where it is weathered. I could not, however, get the paint code on my spare tire cover to cross reference into a Plastikote number via our color guide at work. How can I match my paint properly? Is my only solution to go to a specialty paint store?
Thanks in advance guys for anyone who can help me. I know all my issues make the car sound bad, but really, its not bad at all. Its a very nice car that runs beautifully and has incredible power. I am madly in love with this vehicle.
