so my old ignition key broke off in the ignition lock cylinder last winter.  i was still able to start the car since the key part was stuck in the cylinder, but today i thought i found a spare and decided to dig the old piece of key out.  well i got it out and found that what i thought was the spare was actually for my old TSTE roll  then i tried sticking the piece of key back in the lock cylinder but it doesn't work so now i can't even start the car.  the steering column is from a '93 Lumina that came from the j/y so i can't just go to the GM dealership with my title/VIN and have them cut me a new one (if they could even do that).

so....i gotta replace the ignition lock cylinder.  i have a steering wheel puller but what else do i need to do?  i haven't actually replaced a lock cylinder in a W-body before.  hopefully a new lock cylinder isn't too expensive.  i'm assuming NAPA would have one?

TIA

i'm about to go pull the steering wheel and lock cylinder.  only 27*F damn.  hopefully i have a way of starting the car with no ignition lock cylinder in there.  on my GTS there was a tang inside the column that you could turn with a needle nose pliers to start the car (i had to replace that one once too).  i think i have a new one one the way from Tony so hopefully it'll be all done soon.

i'll take some pics.

i refuse to look at the car until i'm back from VA next year.

i was actually able to crank it over after i drilled the rest of the lock out.  i found out theres a gear that needs to be turned which i can use my screwdriver to push on.  however, the battery is now dead.  how i don't know.  wtf.  god damned car.

well after simmering down a little i am just going to buy a steering column at the junkyard tomarrow.  it'll be from the same International sedan i got my seats from awhile ago.  it has an ignition key and SWRC too.  i really need to have my Cutlass running and driving while i'm gone so my brother can start it up and let it run and/or drive it once a week.  i don't want to come back to it next summer with flat spots on the new tires and start it up with dry bearings.  steering column R&R takes me about 1/2 hour by myself tops so i might as well get it done.

all fixed.  the new column was $50 and everything works fine.  i was worried the turn signal and/or high beam flasher was messed up but it turned out the little torx screws inside were just loose.  everything works perfect and i now have an ignition key!  it came with a nice black wheel with SWRC too so maybe i can get that to work someday.  steering wheel column R&R is so damn easy.  next time i have a problem with a turn signal switch or ignition lock cylinder i'll probably just replace the whole column instead of pulling the wheel off and fucking around with the turn signal switch and everything else in there.  i can swap the whole thing out in about 1/2 hour and they're cheap at the j/y.
