Random member quote: People say the mini cooper is fast, and handles amazing. I asked a girl why she loved hers.  Her response was "it’s small, and cute, and I can fit everything in it...  just like my purse".  It was at that point I felt my nuts crawl up inside my body and refuse to come back out.

Well, its not fast, but it isnt slow either. The 160 horsepower is plenty of pep for my needs. I've never had trouble pulling out into busy traffic or onto the highway. I'd say in order of quickest to slowest off the line, in my house would be...

the '04 Cavi with the 2.2 liter Ecotec. Put your foot in it and that thing really moves.
My GP (slower than the Cavi but not much)
The 89 Skyhawk with the 2.0 (a very distant third)
and lastly, leading way way way in the back is the E-150 with the 5.0. It is simply just not enough engine to haul that much ass around with any sort of speed.

i thought it would be a good show to race my 'new' Lumina against my old regal. both are 91s, and near full loads. both auto too.
any guesses on who wins the race? heres some info

1991 buick regal (Frank)
250,000kms
3800 Series 1. last oil change was over 4 months ago!! haha -not mine.....
FE3 suspension
RActive Muffler, no pipes changed. infact its still routed over the rear leaf, not under.

AND
1991 Chevrolet Lumina Z34.
125,000km (as with the buick, this is give or take a good amount)
3.4L DOHC -recent work includes new air box and new gaskets from under the LIM to the top of the motor.
oil changed abour 2,000km ago. maybe 3000... not getting changed again till spring though.
and its lugging around a trunk full of junk, including my 75lbs worth of sub woofer box...

exhaust has all been replaced (from collector to tips) with 2 1/2" mandrel bent pipes with magnaflow mufflers and tips.

so who bets on who, a race from 0 - 100kmh

Z34 wins.  I couldn't keep up with any LQ1's when I had my Regal.  They pull hard all the way up to redline, whereas the L27 peters out somewhere 4500-5000 RPM.

I want to run my wife's 07 Impy against an LQ1.  It would be a pretty even fight.  I bet if I slapped a CAI on the 07, it might eek out a win.

the '04 Cavi with the 2.2 liter Ecotec. Put your foot in it and that thing really moves.

I had an 04 Malibu Classic that had the ECOtec.  That motor was definitely a screamer!  I think it was pretty evenly matched with the L82, power-wise.  I remember it had quite a bit of top end power, but like every DOHC 4-banger, it sounded like a wounded banshee when it got up above 5000 RPM...

ive gotta admit, that first one looks cheap. those have gotta be hubcaps, and its not even a GS model. i bet it has a 2.8 in it! lol

in our trailer hitch listings book at work, we list a Gen1 Wbody Buick Regal GS with dual exhaust (listed as a GS model) but ive yet to see one. any clarification here?

Never seen the first one before.

Definitely Photoshopped. Those are Century wheels.

One: That is NOT a turbo 6 decal.

Two: many 3.0s and 3.8s got it even though they were N/A.

correction, also on the t-type and riviera turbo

Post Merge: December 08, 2009, 04:28:44 PM
1979 saw the debut of the first front wheel drive Riviera on a trimmer, 114 in (2,900 mm) wheelbase, once again sharing its mechanical design and platform with the Cadillac Eldorado and Oldsmobile Toronado. The Olds 403 and 350 were dropped, but the Buick 350 remained, as did a new turbocharged Buick V6 of 231 cu in (3.79 L) displacement with 185 hp (138 kW). The Riviera became Motor Trend's Car of the Year. Sales more than doubled, to 52,181 for 1979 and 48,621 for the very similar 1980 models.[2]

1981 saw the Turbo renamed T-Type

I don't see a turbo, do you?

My 1987 Somerset GN with a N/A 3.0 had them as well.

So did 1986 Century Gran Sports that had N/A 3.8s.

i gotta agree with mechanic on it NOT being a turbo 6 logo, but more of a buick performance logo, like a FAST 6. lol
but i do disagree with manic on that the first convertible regal in this thread isnt photoshopped, why waste time putting in door handles?
