All my 3.1s and 2.8s Ive had or worked on were 3 piece.. I THINK the WBodies w/ the 4800 were 3 piece at this time as well.. But Im not sure as I have never worked on the 3800 up close and personal..

FWIW, I know my grampa had a 3 piece on his 87 LeSabre..

AFAIK, all L27's received the "3-Piece" coil/ICM assembly.  The coils/ICM should interchange between all L27's, L36's, and L67's (you can use the coilpacks themselves from any GM that uses 'em, but the 3800's have a different ICM than the 60* V6's.)

As a reference, I picked up a coil/ICM assembly for my 92 LeSabre (with the early "gray-intake" L27) from a boneyard which was off of a 2000 Monte w/the L36.  It was a direct bolt-in replacement...

The coils are the same for any GM, just remember the ICM's are what is different.

recently they have been, some old 3800s had a weird 1 piece coil/icm. but any w-car would have the 3 part coil setup.
