So I got a 1990 GP STE, theres just one issue with it, The car ran for a little bit, but now when the key is turned to the ON position the FUSE PUMP/ECM Fuse pops (according to the label on the box its on the same line) what would cause this fuse to blow everytime that the car is turned to the on position?
EDIT: I might have a suspicion of what the under laying cause maybe but what are the odds of a fuel pump from shorting out from the inside and sending a feed all the way to the ECM/Fuel pump fuse?

Quite likely actually.
My Silhouette did this very thing, replaced the pump and no more fuse popping.

Are you kidding? hahaha
Jake and I did the fuel pump on Taylor's convertible in an hour on the side of the road.
Get car up as high as you can safely, pull some exhaust hangars, start dropping the tank, pull the hoses, drag the tank out. Two people would be best. Put it all back together.

Easy test, disconnect the pump power at the tank and see if it eats the fuse.

i had a major brain fart with that one, been so long since i screwed around with one of these things LOL
Well Pulled the plug on the fuel pump and crammed a new fuse into place and it still pops it, so the faults gonna be somewhere on the ecm wire but the wiring diagram i got doesnt give any info on the that.

Post Merge: December 01, 2010, 10:18:15 PM The earliest FSM I have is a 1992 Cutlass, but it should be nearly identical I would think.

Hmmm thanks, seems like a short somewhere through there if it was the main power wire coming off of that fuse then it would pop every time u stuck a fuse in it instead of it popping when u turn the car into the on position.

Fuel pump, relay or oil pressure sensor.
I'd start testing the wires for resistance as well.

I tested the continuity of the A20 wire for the fuel pump signal from the ECM and its picking up both a ground and power when tested, is that normal. does it with the car ON and OFF
EDIT: and the fuse still pops with the oil pressure sending unit, relay, and the fuel pump all disconnected. Also the Fuel pump priming wire also sparks when touched to a positive battery source (i know a small spark doesn't hurt but in this case its a large spark that littlerly gets hot enough to melt the plastic on that connector)

Put a jumper in where the fuse is supposed to go, and trace the smell of burning wire - then you've found the problem Seriously, don't do that. I know sofa might...
