So I'm replacing the front rotors and pads on my car, but I cannot seem to find the right freaking torx go get the damn caliper mounting bracket whatever the hell that thing is off. I purchased a T60 torx for $7 and that simply was too big. A 45 minute drive back to the autoparts store got me a T55 torx, but it's to freaking small!!! So about $27 later ($7 for the freaking tool, $20 in gas to go back there AGAIN), I STILL don't have the right freaking size.
Someone here must know what size it is so I can get these damn things off and just change the rotors already...
The more days that pass, the more I hate the W-Body platform. Or maybe it's just freaking Luminas, could just be New England cars... Nonetheless, I hate that car.

I have the socket from Snap On...I couldn't tell you what size it is, but i would think that an auto parts store would have it. They are a BITCH to get off on a rusted car...I had to torch them off on my 1988 Regal.

It is a T60. There is probably a lot of dirt and shit in there so that it does not fit in there good. Just clean it out with some brake cleaner, then spray some PB BLASTER on it. I had to hit it in with a hammer one one of them, but all my cars use the T60.
I HAVE seen 1 or 2 that didn't have the T60. It was that size, but it was an ALLEN KEY, and not a TORX. Make sure you don't have one of them.

that's right it was a Torx bit. I can't remember what mine was on my Lumina. That was lightyears ago when I did front brakes on it.

don't hold me to this but I think that you can just outright change out those bolts with the ones from the newer strut knuckles, the newer ones are for larger brakes, but I am pretty sure the bolts remain the same.
I believe that was what, 96 or 97 and up? I pulled a set of struts from a 98 Lumina and the bolts were different, but much easier to remove. I always add a touch of antiseize as well, but make sure you torque them down good afterwards.

The best way to break those bolts loose is too take the wheel and turn it so you can get a breaker bar in there. Worked great for me!

My impact gun laughed at me when I tried to use it on there, didn't budge the thing a bit.

I have had to (and someone else once did too) take a grinder and grind the heads off of the torx bolts. doing so will allow you to remove the bracket with the decapitated bolts attached. Hell.. I was able to turn the shafts out with a vice grip afterwards!!!! grab new or used bolts and a bracket if you must from a donor. they are readily available you know.....

^^ Looks like I'm going to have to do that.
parts aren't really readily available unless new. Nobody keeps anything this "old" around here, it all gets sent to the crushers.
I took a Oxy/Mapp torch to the bolts, heated the freaking thing up cherry red, and broke ANOTHER T60!!!
