You can safely go with a 245/50/16 as that is the stock size on a TGP. You can probably get by with something a little wider.

My friend Jamie (he has a red 95 GTP) says he is going to be putting 255s on his x-lace.  I think he said 255/50/16 but I may be wrong about the sidewall size.

I've seen 255's on the 5-spokes, I wouldn't recommend it, you'd be getting to a point where there would tread getting close to the sidewalls.

I have 245's on my GP 245/50ZR16's.  They are actually too small.  (When the speedo is going 104, I'm going 100.

Jamie's car is lowered a bit, I'm not sure if he's having some rubbing issues, I think that he's curled back some of his tips (around the wheel wells - not the plastic ones, but the metal lips underneath).

so I can get away with the stock TGP size of 245/50/16 on the x-laces...

how well would a 235/55/16 fit on the 5-spoke rims?

I wouldn't go with a 235/55 unless they were free or close.

My Sonoma GT came stock with 235/55/16s and when they wore out, I put on the 245/50/16s...I could totally out handle any stock ZQ8 S-series. HUGE difference.

Since the topic came up...

What is the widest tire I could run on a Cutlass 5-spoke? 245's? I've only got the 225's on it that came with the car so anything above that would be an improvement.

I'm sure there would be a big difference going from 225's to 245's.

of you put a tire that is TOO wide on the rim, you will see a decrease in tire performance.  i want to say that is too wide. iirc the rim is 7 inches, wear as the gp crosslaces are 8 inch.
