245 is the widest you can fit.

a 245 is wayyyy too wide for a 6" wide wheel.

yeah....they barely fit on a 7" wheel.
I should've clarified.  I meant the widest you could fit inside the wheel wells without rubbing (on a wheel that will accomodate that wide of a tire.)

well it has 205-70 or 65 r15's now. So should i go for 215-60-r15?

I REALLY wouldn't waste money on new tires for 15" rims.  They will not look good, they are too small.  Get some 16" either in x-lace or Olds 5-spoke for $100 at a junkyard.

Some 225/60/16 would do the trick.  225/60/16 have pretty much been standard on all w-bodies since the mid 90s to present.  I have 205/70/15 as my winter tires, and 225/60/16 are my stock (summer) tires/rims.
There is a slight difference in height with the wheels next to each other... the 225s are no more than 1/2" taller than the 205s, however that's only 1.3% (too slow) difference according to tire calculator http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html .  You could also go with 225/55/16 (like on the Cadillac CTS which look nice IMO) they would be 2.1% too fast but have a lower profile, depending on the look you want.

Also, if you want WIDE and go with the GP crosslace rims (7" wide) your tires will stick out from the sides of the car a tiny bit due to the different offset.
