How does it actually work?

the reason i ask is because mine is leaking, however it looks to be the return line... but everytime i buy the part (the most expensive 3.4 power steering line available, it looks different. the part that looks like its leaking is where this part stops

the part on the car has a pressed fitting (or whatever you call a permanent metal - rubber hose connection and continues up to the top of the motor to the power steering pump. (itcomes from the cooler, and from the rack.) in that order. -as its the return line. duh.

but why am i not getting the rest of it, and why would the return leak?? is that even a pressure side? it PISSES out when its cold. it barely drips when its hot....

if its cold all night and i start my car, it will nearly drain the ps completely... without me even touching it, just idling in the driveway... how could this be the friggin return line?

well the hose prolly expands as its hot, so it leaks less. The return i belive is just powersteering bulk hose you can buy at any parts store and just uses hose clamps, maybe a clamps loose or a lines split

the return might leak cuz when the fluid is cold it is thicker (kinda like a cold motor at idle has more oil pressure than a warm one)  so your return pressure is probably higher and compromises the small leak more

ok, so lets talk about how it works, prices up here are different too. the hose i got (big ass mofo with cooler and supposidly rubber hoses too, but does not match the one i have 100% where mine comes off of the ps pump its rubber, goes down to a fitting and mates to the metal line. where this one starts. if the fitting is leaking, why replace the whole line? why not cut the end off, flare it a touch and put a new rubber line on up to the pump

AND if its the return line, how does it leak when the car is first started without the wheels even being turned or anyone even sitting in the seat? doesnt there need to be some wheel movement for the fluid to move?

well you could, you could try it why not. My red cars Trans cooler line went bad, it surprisingly was turbo specific according to the dealer, so i just yanked it and used soft rubber line w/ wire loom protecting it and zipties holding it in place and its working great so far. A trans coolers real similar low/no pressure
