So all of a sudden my 04 is making all sorts of weird noises, started off as a clunk that would appear with the slightest bit of steering wheel movement left or right (but only once, you could turn it all the way to bump stop both ways and it would only clunk once in each direction, right when you started moving the wheel).  Now tonight when i try to video the clunk all it does is squeal essentially, i got it pretty good on video for a change its uploading now. Not a loud belt type squeal but a quiet rubbing kinda squeal.  This all started today and at first i was thinking Intermediate shaft, but now with it changing from the thunk to a squeal im thinking it could be more rack related.

Now the thunk was happening even at driving speed, change lanes and get a thud.  So it isnt just a, well your tires aren't moving noise.

I called the dealership and enquired about how much to replace the Int. shaft, and they said probably around $400...

Now for my dumb question... where the hell is the power steering reservoir on the L67.  Cant for the life of me see the cap anywhere. dunno  I know on the 3400 on the 03 it was right up top and visible by the alternator, but i haz a blower in the way... its not under the snout is it?

I will get the video up right away and let me know what you guys think, this bugs me but unlike my ford i will spend the money to get shit fixed on this car lol

My car also does this rubbing squeal noise.  But i only notice it when I'm in the parking garage (driving slow and steering hard).  Mine doesn't really make any clunking though (maybe a very slight clunk if I crank the wheel all the way, but nothing I consider abnormal).

If/when you find out what it is, let me know!

well my PS fluid was very low, so after fucking with my dead ford to get it running i went and bought some fluid, topped it up and it is still squealing a little bit but im sure it wont magically stop when you add fluid, I will drive it tomorrow and see how she does.  Do these cars use up p/s fluid? I have never seen any sign of a leak and there was barely any on the stick warm... but on the bright side, i got that damn ford running lol still have the idle issue but im not really gonna give 2 pewps about that.  I plan on prolly junking it in the spring.

try some of the lucas powersteering additive to quiet it down. Leaks are usually the pressure line. No the fluid doesnt just dissapear on its own. Theres got to be a leak.

yeah i picked up a bottle of lucas ps additive but i just filled with ps fluid to start with, if there is a substantial leak i would rather loose a bottle of $3 ps fluid over an $12 bottle of lucas lol.
