Just curious cause the first thing I'm touching in here is the sound system.. The door speakers are 3 1/2's I think then there are the back 6x9's

But what really threw me for a loop were the front dash 4x6's there's spots for them.. But no speakers there.. Could the previous owner removed them? Or is that normal for there to be a spot bu lt no speaker..

nah thats for the delco system, it doesnt get door speakers, so the panels look pretty plain if you ask me. the bose system didnt get dash speakers tho. im not sure if there would even be a working speaker connector there... though it would be pretty easy to wire one in. if youre goin balls to the wall on the stereo why not put one in? i always thought a center channel would be a cool addition.

ive got a pair of 12" Pioneers in my trunk, pioneer 6x9s in the back and pioneer 4x6s up front. i run a 600W (very under powered for my two subs) run in mono and hooked up in series (i think thats how you would word it) and have 0gauge wire run for power. my surrounds are just powered off the deck. somewhere i think i have a capacitor that i should install one day, but im a slacker. what can i say? plus its DAMN cold and everything is snowed in. fuck it.

Post Merge: January 10, 2011, 11:09:03 AM
o ya one problem i have STILL is a rattling trunk lid. ive tried a few things (other than dynomat cuz im cheap too) and the best inexpensive solution to the problem i found is truck box liner. my whole inside of my trunk has it sprayed in there and it really took the vibrations down. then when i popped out the back part of the back seat, theres a 5/8" thick rubber insulation pad there... mines in the city dump somewhere. lol bass comes thru better, car rides colder though. o well.

WTF are you talking about?

one problem i have STILL is a rattling trunk lid.

I've never got mine to stop rattling. I've put two layers of 5ml sound deadening and used massive amounts of expandable foam in the actual trunk lid. Still rattles like a bitch.

ever heard of Ken Block? and you better watch out for that fiesta. its going to hurt GM i bet.

and NOTHING you can show me proves its worth the money, you say mine are shit by comparison, yet they light up brighter than the stock bulbs, they havent burned out yet (not even one diode) and my interior lights come from a package that costs more than both our cars values rolled into one joint!

we have LED light bars at work that outshine anything youve shown me, that cost $800 *retail.  they out preform HID headlights. whats your crapillac LEDs got on that?

ALL LEDs now are made in China, the thing to watch out for is brand. and how do you tell what if they GEN 1, 2 or whatever else there is?

Here you go...

Quote
When it comes to leds, what does Gen3 really mean?

Light Emitting Diodes, those magical illuminating semiconductors, have been around now for more than four decades. In just the last ten years or so, the led has undergone a tremendous evolutionary transformation. Originally only able to produce light in the red wavelength, they can now produce nearly any color in the spectrum. In addition, the achievable power levels of leds have increased exponentially. This has led to explosive growth in the emergency vehicle lighting (EVL) market.

The term “Gen1” generally refers to the traditional 5mm led which has been with us for most of the last forty years. The 5mm led typically has a light dispersion angle of approximately 10-15° but the overall light energy is relatively low. Because 5mm diodes were the only affordable option when emergency vehicle lighting began to incorporate them almost ten years ago, generating enough light to meet emergency vehicle lighting standards required using large number of these Gen1 leds to do so. This is why Gen1 products are made up of tens, if not hundreds of leds. Products based on the Gen1 led are economical to produce and therefore provide an affordable entry level option. However, it’s important to understand the inherent limitations of these lights. They have a very narrow angle of visibility and they tend to lose their effectiveness in bright sunshine.

The Gen2 led, also known as the Super Flux led, is widely used in automotive applications due to its higher energy output, much wider viewing angle and stout architecture. However, it did not find its way into many emergency vehicle lighting products. This can be attributed to both its size as well as the need to group large numbers of these leds together to produce a significant light output. Currently there are very few products using Gen 2 LEDs.

Today’s high tech leds come in a wide range of configurations. It’s no longer an apples to apples comparison. The reference to Gen3 is more akin to the fact that these new leds are able to operate at much higher energy levels for longer periods of time. This translates into a significant increase in light output. So it only takes a few of these high output leds to provide the required light output required for EVL. In addition, these leds have very wide viewing angles, in some cases as much as 160 degrees. Because of this, products utilizing these leds have a greater effective warning signal. The Gen3 moniker therefore, is a misnomer. A much more accurate classification of these leds is wattage. leds used in most EVL products are either 1w or 3w. Higher power levels have been developed, but the heat they generate is greater than can be effectively dissipated. This means that for the foreseeable future, this is where “Gen3” warning lights will remain.

What does all of this mean? In short, Gen1 products offer generally acceptable performance at an economical price point. Products such as the Hawk I and Hawk II provide an economical entry point for the first responder. Gen3 led products are the current industry standard. These products offer the greatest performance in light output and wide angle visibility. Dash lights, such as the Titan series, and grille lights, such as the TLED04 and RECT-14 are brilliant day or night. They provide the greatest level of visibility and when you get down to the heart of the matter, being seen is the key to being safe when responding. Conspicuity is the key and emergency vehicle lighting incorporating Gen3 leds are the best performer.

ive got a mix of Gen 2s and Gen 3s, with Gen 1s on the outside.

now this is how i look at it though, i can go and get better bulbs that may be brighter but the exterior ones cost me a total of like $30 or some shit, and my interior lights i got for free... how much would it cost to equip just the rear end of my car with all LEDs from your source? im pretty sure i had it priced out to over $300. how much for interior bulbs?

ok, now... is the car worth it? how much longer am i going to have this car? should i buy these lights for some asshole in the junkyard? i dont think theres another car out there that uses 6, 3157 bulbs in its tail lights.

if i was a government funded agency with tax payed funding, then sure why not get the best of the best out there? but i drive a 1991 Chevrolet Lumina. a 91 Chev. no one (me included) cares about a 91 chev. i dont even buy brand new tires when i need them, i get re runs. heh i get runs. lol

for interior
the one i have in the center has 6 Gen 2s onboard and looks kinda like this: (but with less LEDs)
and my map lights are PIAA brand LEDs and look like the picture for Gen3s, i think two diodes per bulb

Yeah, I spent an obnoxious amount of money on my tail lights. I wanted them to be the brightest they could be, and I figure I'm going to keep the Luminas around for a long time, so I don't mind upgrading them. If you ever get another car, why wouldn't you remove your LED bulbs? Unless you get a car with stock LEDs, you're going to have 3157 (or equivalent) sockets, unless you get an even older vehicle (My S10 and box truck use 1157's). You would have had to spend less than I did, because your housings are stock 6-bulb 3157/6-bulb 194's. Mine are modified 10-bulb 3157 with the 2-bulb 194's. Then I got the brightest 194's out there so those things were like $20 a pop.

I spent way too much money on the LED upgrades on all my vehicles, but I'd do it all over again biggrin

Does that interior light fit in there without any modification to the housing? What's wrong with them, I can see where they could have fit 6 more LEDs! Actually, they might have been able to get 10 more in there if they did it right. I was thinking about LED for the interior and map lights.
